  • Re: Questions RE: "How Avid Media Composer Uses a Computer"

I am interested in a difinitave "version matrix" on Media Composer for the minimum amount of GPU RAM required to enable GPU rendering (and ACPL). I know, for example, that MC v8.5.3 requries at least 1.5 gigs of Video RAM to enable GPU rendering. Somewhere prior it was 1 Gig, but not shure... (read more)

  • Re: Videoguys' PC & Mac System Recommendations for Avid Media Composer 7

Answering this myself here in case anyone needs to know in the future :) I called Videoguys and they recommend 2 X 8GB RAM. In the future, should you want to improve performance, you can then add 2 X 8GB RAM to go into the last two RAM slots. No matter what, RAM needs to be added in equal pairs. If you... (read more)

[quote user="videoguy"] RAM: 8GB of RAM is the bare minimum. As a rule of thumb, we recommend 3GB of RAM per CPU core, so for best results with an i7 quad core CPU, get 12GB (triple channel) or 16GB (dual or quad channel) of RAM. • System Requirements

Hello I am running Media Composer 5.0.3 on a MacPro 2009, 2x2.66 GHz Dual Core Intel Xeon with NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT, 8 GB of RAM. Playback of clips is impossible unless I sut down any other program running- is it a RAM issue or a Graphic Card issue? In which case what would you guys reccomend? I think... (read more)

  • Ram Allocation

MC-6, I was running 8gigs and my baseline render test of a 22 minute episode took 20:22.9 seconds to render with 3 effects applied. I then installed 20gig of ram and to render the very same episode took 25 seconds longer. Do I have to tell MC-6 that there is now more Ram available through some sort of... (read more)

  • MC5 slow export

Hello, everyone. My name is Paulo. I'm working with AVID MC5 and with a Mac Pro 2x Quad Cor processor and 6gb Ram. I'm having some problems to export my sequences. Today, I've tried to export a 7min sequence, a tough sequence (with chroma key and fx), and MC5 estimated 4 hours to export this... (read more)
