• Avid DS Television Workflow

There are several posts here and elsewhere from people trying to push AAFs and Avid media through color systems and back. Some have it working, many do not; the potential pitfalls, headaches and drawbacks of it are well documented. Since 2009, we have been using a different method that I think is simple... (read more)

  • Conforming Red 3k50 project troubles

3k50 Red footage was converted to 720P50 with Redcine and edited with MC5. I exported AFE and conformed with DS. It links to the original Red footage - but... Footage plays at half speed, it is wrongly flagged as 25fps in DS explorer, even so metadata shows 50fps. All timecodes are off. What is the solution... (read more)

  • Re: How to upgrade Red files?

Hello again Henry! I spent some time today trying some things out... one thing i've noticed is that the cashes i made in v10.2 are reacting as i thought they would, but when i went to make new links of some of the same media in 10.3 i get the same resualts as you have... the media is off-set to the... • Re: Dotted timeline ribbon in Avid DS 10.3

The dotted lines indicate the space between your in & out points Yes it would sem that if your cashes are not found by 10.3 then re-rendering is the answer, what version did you upgrade from? (read more)

  • Re: RED files rendered in timeline - loosing render caches?

This is expected in film size sequences with captured media. If you're working in HD or smaller size, including real time proxy, color correction preset should not unrender the clips. (read more)

  • DS 10.2 R3d file import

Sorry if this post has already been made, could'nt find it though. I don't really see any difference on import whether selecting redlog, linear or any of the other luts in the Storage LUT settings. I would have expected this to behave kind of like red cine, red alert (or whatever it is called... (read more)

  • Re: Red One quicktime file
Instead, capture the R3D file directly and sync the audio from the QuickTime file.
Is there any way to "trick" the DS into capturing the R3d vido footage in one pass and then the audio from a Proxy file perhaps in another pass? This would give you... (read more)

  • Red Color Shift

Hey DS'ers, I am wondering what may account for a drastic color shift between captured 1080 dnxhd 220 of a Apple Prorez quicktime files (transcoded on set from R3D) and the linked 4k R3D file of the same timecode. While the same files have a much less noticeable (albeit noticeable) shift when imported... (read more)

  • Stereoscopic Workflow

Hi, I'm trying to figure out what the best way to go about planning for a stereoscopic 3D project might be. We are in the pre-production stage of a shoot for a six minute live action project and I am working on an Avid DS V10 with the 8400 workstation. I am in the fortunate position to be able to... • Re: bad quality of red raw debayer in ds

Storage LUT is not applied to linked R3D clips. It is used for captured clips only and you will likely see no appreciable change in the display unless you use a nonsensical LUT that damages the image. The purpose of this LUT is to accomodate 12 bit linear RGB storage in 10 bits. The DS viewer (I believe... (read more)
