  • Re: Questions RE: "How Avid Media Composer Uses a Computer"

Hi Chris, Many thanks for this post. A quesiton about codec handling as it relates to real time playback. Perhaps Shailendra could offer some thoughts or commentary on the following... One thing that has been both curious and frustrating comes with how reliable or robust the playback is for a given codec... (read more)

  • What "media creation" codec should I use please

I'm so confused. I have 4k .mov footage and after reading about Avid DNxHR HQX and all the other DNx Codecs as well as Apple Pro Res codecs I have no idea what to choose for importing. Also should I choose a 10 bit or 8 bit codec? And I have generally used YCbCr for color space not RGB. Please help... (read more)

  • Importing verses AMA with MXF files

Hey Everyone, So I shoot with a Canon xf100 than makes MXF files on a CF card. Just wondering if I still have to "consolidate" my clips after "importing" them into my new project bin? I import them as DnxHD145. I know you have to consolidate clips after you AMA import them, but I... (read more)

  • Importing massively increases the file size

I notice that when I import a 700MB .avi file using the default resolution (1:1 10b RGB MXF) I wind up with a 38GB .mxf file! Switching to the other choice (DNxHD), the resulting file size is more manageable. So what is that first one (1:1) used for? Why does it increase the file size so dramatically... (read more)

  • DNxHD Available Resolutions - MC6

I just upgraded to MC6 (from 5.5), and now on importing (or rendering) any media (including titles), the only available resolutions are DNxHD 444 350 X MXF, 1:1 10b RG MXF, or ProRes 4444 MXF. The usual suspects like DNxHD 175, 115, or 36, are not available (and were available in current projects created... (read more)
