    Re: Capturing problems

This is the card I have installed on the PCIe slot:

Rosewill PCIE FireWire 1394a Card 2+1 Ports Model RC-504

I take it this card is not appropriate for the task at hand.

Edit: Yes, I have QT 7.6.0. The model of the camera may be a contributing factor to the problem. It's a consumer DV model: JVC GR-DF550

    Re: Capturing problems

First time I thought I had set up my DV20 with MC I had similar problems with lack of recognition of the device. So if you haven't done so already, go back to the manual and very carefully make sure you have followed all the steps to set up your generic capture device. I had missed one of the configuration steps (I actually ended up using one of the preconfigured cameras, even though mine was not listed - I just tried all of them, and picked one of the ones that worked).

I find that as long as I power up the HV20 before starting MC, MC consistently recoginses it. This is with Windows 7 64-bit. My Liquid system, on the other hand, was always flaky on capture - with XP, Vista and Windows 7.

    Re: Capturing problems

    Guy,

I've followed the chronology that you outline:
    1. Boot computer
    2. Turn camera on
    3. Start MC

I've tried the generic configuration, a JVC DV configuration, just about everything on the list. MC doesn't see the camera (even though Win 7 x64 does). I've even manually rolled back the FW port driver to the OHCI legacy.

In a worst-case scenario I can always capture on the Liquid/XP box to an external FW drive and then import to the MC/Win 7 box. We'll see what MC5 brings. In the meantime, I can pick up a TI or Agere PCI FW card and see whether that makes a difference.

    Thanks.

    Re: Capturing problems

Did you take all the steps about removing the channel and configuring it from the start?

Are you at the right project format?

Yes, George. Deleted the deck AND the channel before attempting to re-configure. Project format is the basic DV - I'm not at home right now so I cannot give you the exact particulars on the format. It should be correct, though.

    Re: Capturing problems

It sounds strange as I have never had problems with DV.

With HDV and Canon HV30 I have some problems from time to time.

But at the recent project I did, shot with a Z1 and downloaded from HV30

I have had none. Also projects for others with Z1 the same.

I have tried Sony's and Canon's DV cameras and I have had no problem ever.

Even the batch worked fine there too from tapes shot with VX2K, PC115 and Canon's.

I will double-check the project settings tomorrow when I'm at home. Thanks, George.

    Re: Capturing problems

Now that I've installed MC5 I revisited the capture issue.

George, the project settings are 30iNTSC, DV25 411 MXF, 601. This should work with the MiniDV (SD) deck I'm using for capture.

There is another discussion thread on this forum concerning the difficulty in recognizing a JVC deck (Found here: "Firewire capture - MC can't recognize my device".) So, perhaps this is a compatibility problem with JVC consumer decks and MC.

Again, the OS (Windows 7 x64 Pro) sees the deck. I've used the host firewire port (albeit one with a Via chipset) and the port on a PCIe firewire card (I believe it's an Agere chipset).

It would seem that the only remaining alternative would be to test using a different deck. Failing that, I will use Liquid on my old P4 Win XP box to capture to an external drive and then import to MC.
