    Re: Installation Error

Marianna got things straightened out for me.  Some files to delete and re-activate and re-register.  All this worked fine.

The only remaining issue is the "Not Registered" tag that shows on the start screen.  I emailed Marianna about it and her response was,

"Ignore it as it should go away after 3 launches where you say you don’t want to register.  It is a funky old end user license agreement code causing it."

Hope this is helpful for other users who are experiencing the same issue.

    Re: Installation Error

Exactly the same experience as I had.  One thing I would point out though - don't ask 'What files' thinking you can short circuit the route by deleting those 'before' activating: I don't think that's the way it works.  I had a rough idea what the files could be before I started (from a post in another thread) - and the files mentioned just didn't exist on my machine ... until after the Activation failed.  Maybe I'd looked in the wrong place, but I don't think so.

As for having to phone the States (no Activation telephone number, it seems, in Europe) - our bill has just come in, and as far as I can see, it was (just) around £3.50 for the call - and it wasn't a 'quick' call - probably about 10 - 15 minutes altogether by the time she'd waited for me to find things and follow instructions.  I don't think that is over expensive and was certainly worth every penny.  It would be better, of course, if activation worked as it says on the tin, and it probably does for most people (otherwise they'd be totally flooded with calls?), but what the heck!  It's well worth it once done.

    Re: Installation Error

    Mike,

The files that I deleted were listed by Marianna in an email correspondence and were broken down by OS, and where the files were loacted on the computer.

    Re: Installation Error

Yes Denny.  I'm saying though that I don't think the files listed are where they're said to be until after the activation has been attempted and failed.  I think they're created during the activation process, but I could be wrong.   Someone somewhere listed the files, and their locations, and before I activated I checked for them - nothing.

I believe we are specifically asked now not to list the files and their locations.
