    Audio in effects editor mode

Is it possible to monitor audio when in the Effects Editor?

I find I can play the effect by pressing the play icon but I would like to make changes to the effect to match some things in the audio track, but audio is muted in this mode.

I am trying to use a Boris DVE effect.

Is that Boris F/X, the separate 3rd party plug-in package, or BCC Continuum, the plug-in from the Avid bundle that works in the native Avid interface? If the latter, you should be able to hear audio in the effects mode, as long as the speaker icons are active on the appropriate audio tracks. If it's the F/X package, I believe you would need to import the audio into it, but it's been a long time since I've used F/X, so I might be mistaken.

The only time you will not hear audio when working in the native Avid effects interface is when you use the arrow keys to step into a nested effect. If you double click the effect in the timeline, it will show the nested contents ABOVE the clip in the timeline and you will be able to hear audio.

Re: Audio in effects editor mode

I haven´t seen any way either, I use two different ways to deal with it, either to add markers at the clip before adding the effect or, with the effect applied, press down caps lock to turn on audio scrub and play the sequense with the right and left  arrow key adding markers when listening that way

Re: Audio in effects editor mode

For BCC I only get audio when previewing the RT effects. None of the render-required effects (at least none I've found) preview with audio in the effects editor.

I am using the MC 4 trial and Boris BCC trial at the moment.

I was hoping to be able to listen to the audio when in the Effects Editor mode so that I could judge when to make keyframe adjustments.

I admit I was only pressing the play icon and not just scrubbing. I will go back and try the scrubbing method.

    UPDATE:

I have just tried the scrubbing when the Effects Editor is open, and I cannot monitor the audio.

I am asking these questions because I don't know if it is down to my unsupported system or if MC does not allow this function

Perhaps that could be a feature request for the future?

My guess is that it already is supported with the correct hardware, someone with more knowledge might pop in, maybe protools or the Nitris bob is supporting this

Yes, I have the Nitris DX box and audio playback is present when in effects mode with the effects editor tool open. Audio does not playback when using the conventional "step in" and "step out" nesting arrows, but does playback when double clicking an effected clip to reveal the nested contents above the timeline, instead of stepping in.

I just tried this and it is true that blue dot (must be rendered) effects will not play audio in the effects mode when unrendered. Green dot (real time) and rendered effects will play audio.
