NTSC QT in PAL DV project

    Hi there,

I am doing a 25i (PAL, 16x9) project but have some stock footage in QT format at 29.97 (NTSC, 4x3). What would be the best way to get it in? There is no audio involved, just video.

The size is not much of an issue, most of the footage can be cropped. The problem is the frame rate.

I tried importing the QT files directly into the PAL project but the video does not play back smoothly. There is a significant amount of jitter/stutter. I also tried to use Apple QT Pro to convert the frame rate with the same results. Same for Apple Compressor. Any suggestions?

    Thank you.

    Jiri

I would use Sorenson or something similar to convert the QT files before hand.

    Hello.

You can also use "JES Deinterlacer", and it's free.

    Hi,

I've used After Effects to convert QT files from NTSC to PAL.  Depending on what your final goal is, it might do a good enough job.

    good luck,

Thanks everyone. I ended up using MPEG Streamclip and funny, some clips are converted very nicely while others retain the jittery motion. I will try some of your suggestions.
