mc 2.5.3. - startup hangs at "autoconfiguring transport machines"

media composer 2.5.3 - hp laptop with 2gig memory, 2.1GHz chip, intel video.

this machine had a previous install of express pro HD that ran smoothly. now i got the new media composer & was excited to give it a go.

however, no matter how much un/re-install i do & how many times i clean up the registry it will NOT run - startup gets stuck at "autoconfiguring transport machines" & i have to force quit the app.

there's two threads on these forums by folks that had the same problem, but neither contains rational answers - one guys problem disappeared by reverting back to clean winXP install, the other thread is still open. neither pertains to MC, they're for other versions. anyway, clean install is not a real option for me, there's too many apps on the machine that i need to use.

somehow i figured that likely the error message is related to deck configuration, so i deleted all deck info from the registry (& right now none is attached to the laptop), but this was to no avail.

    anybody out there more knowledgeable?

    best,
    - i -

Re: mc 2.5.3. - startup hangs at "autoconfiguring transport machines"

well, no answers here in a week's time - as for me, did another few un/re-installs & spent countless hours researching the internet. seems that there's noone out there who actually knows what the program is doing when it's "autoconfiguring transport machines."

odd that avid techies don't read these threads & jump in with a helping hand.

back to xpress pro HD for me - remain optimistic that that will work...

Re: mc 2.5.3. - startup hangs at "autoconfiguring transport machines"

continuing my monologue, this time for the benefit of other poor souls here.

alas - now it works, the media composer. reverting back to xpress HD i got the same prob, but now convinced that the problem is not with the media composer i played around a bit more - & discovered that if i disabled the wireless transmitters on the laptop it would load.

and sure enough, after another round of un/reinstall - media composer now works. i suspect the conflict was with MC trying to use bluetooth audio & failing. the irony is that after one successfull start it now starts flawlessly even WITH the wireless transmitters on.

YES YES YES YES........The bluetooth audio was exactly my problem as well.  In fact, as Avid was stuck on the "autoconfiguring transport machines" message, I disabled my bluetooth device. Avid immediately continued to load properly. Thanks for posting your experience.

This is a very good axample of what a forum may bring to others. Nevertheless many people forget to come back here after resolving their problem. Sometimes solutions are given here, but even to thank the poster who replies is too tedious.

    Hey!

    Just registered to say THANKS!

I bought this lap top mainly for editing purposes in the uni, and when Avid
wouldn't run on it it was really depressing. But it does now, so thanks a lot again.

    Cheers.

Re: mc 2.5.3. - startup hangs at "autoconfiguring transport machines"

This is now an old thread but thought I would share my similar solution to this problem...

I switched off my wireless modem.  That's it.  I switched it off on the front of my laptop and startup immediately continued!

    Boooooooom!!!!!!

Re: mc 2.5.3. - startup hangs at "autoconfiguring transport machines"

This is a VERY old thread now, BUT

I just did a fresh install of 2021.9, on start up, Composer said it would not be able to connect to my wireless beats earbuds.rt

OK, I thought, thats weird, but then the startup stalled on 'autoconfiguring transport machines'. Came across this thread. I didnt have to disable wireless, but I did ask tha mac to forget my earbuds and boom, started straight up. Never had that one before. So thanks to this old thread! Guess those old bugs die hard!
