    AVCHD waveforms

Does anyone have an efficient workaround to see the audio waveforms while working with linked AVCHD footage? All the posts around here regarding this subject are from 2013.

    Re: AVCHD waveforms

Transcode to a proxy format during editing and then link back to your originals prior to final export. That's one solution.

    Re: AVCHD waveforms

Unfortunately transcoding isn't preferred, due to having hours of footage and a deadline. I hadn't thought of making proxies and relinking, maybe I’ll do that next time. More importantly, I can't believe this issue hasn't ever been fixed.

    Re: AVCHD waveforms

When I asked about this a couple of years ago, I was told (by Avid) that there is a technical reason why they don't show waveforms for AVCHD material but I have trouble believing that it is something other than a performance penalty that a more powerful system couldn't overcome.

Give it a try! Console command wfTglAvchd (at least that was it a couple of years ago...)

I haven't tried it in a while, but last time I did, I found myself quickly turning it off.

I haven't seen Avid crash so hard in quite some time, hah! Sadly all I got was the spinning blue wheel and unfortunately no waveforms. I didn't know about this Console command though, thanks for the suggestion.

    Re: AVCHD waveforms

when i come acrross some avchd files from an old gh2 hacked to high bitrates, i quicky rewrap the files to .mov files, making sure to select audio .wav 48k/16 or 24bit. it takes no time and does not affect the video at all.

    very happy with hdcinematics V6

import file(s) - batch is possible - convert media format - video codec -wrap to mov. - audio codec48k_16

It seems this app is behind a PayPal pay wall. Even though it's very cheap I'm hesitant to pay for a utility to do something that Avid should've addressed by now. Rewrapping sounds like the best way to go all things considered, but I'd be chewing up twice as much drive space for both versions of the media, and the file extension change would probably make relinking between the two difficult (I've already started working on the project).

I guess I'll put this feature on the wait list. (Right next to that new Title Tool!)

    Re: AVCHD waveforms

V6 is now just a front end for FFMPEG (which is free). It makes it much easier to build the FFMPEG comand line, and can batch convert files. You can do it all in FFMPEG and loop through a list of files using Windows command mode, but this makes it simpler. Note that you must also download FFMPEG separately along with V6. If you learn the commands for FFMPEG you can do it all for free.

    Re: AVCHD waveforms

I was in that situation a while back.

I put video and audio on a timeline and did an audio mixdown, removed AVCHD audio.

    edited from that.

If things go wrong, you can machframe back to the avchd audio.
