Avid does not access Avid mediafiles

For each of my avid projects I use a new Avid media files folder by adding an extension to the folder name "Avid mediafiles", when I dont work with the project anymore. For a new project Avid then creates a new Avid media files folder. Usually it works, that I just erase the extension and then access again the old project. Now it does not work anymore in some projects. Even when I have just one Avid Mediafiles folder on the first level of drive (correctly spelled), Avid just creates a second Avid Media Files folder and works with that. In the project all media is offline and I can not access with the media tool. I already refresehd the databse files, but that doesnt help.

The only thing, that helped at least to access the Avid Media Files folder was to delete the new Avid Media Files folder Avid has created - while Avid was still running and then refresh the database files. But even then Avid does not seem to recognize /see the existing mxf-files and media is still offline... I tried it with Avid 8.9.2 and Avid 7.02

Your OS won't let you have 2 folders with the same name in the same place. So if you think you have a folder called Avid MediaFiles and MC makes a new folder called Avid MediaFiles, the same name then the first one isn't exactly the same. You may have an extra space in it or on the end of the name or a .

No, unfortunately not. the name of the two folders are written excactly the same! You also see that, because Avid accesses at least partly the original Avid media files folder, when I delete the newly created one while the project is running... Any other suggestions? Thank you!!!

Try not using an extension as the diffientiator. Actually change the Avid MediaFiles name. So rename one Projectx MediaFiles

But I still can't see how you can have 2 folders with the same name in the same location. How does the OS know which one is which? Tahts what file and folder names are for.

The only time I've ever seen a repeated name was when the file system was corrupted.

Can you take a screen shot of the file explorer showing both directory names?
