Does anybody knows what this is all about and should we as MC users with QT be worried..?

just read that too....uh-oh.
The world is just a cesspool...but all my skies are blue
This is really really bad.
Apple couldn't care less about our industry. That much is clear.
Yeah, in hindsight it was a poor idea to continue relying on QuickTime.But... what now? I haven't been able to find a summary of how this is going to affect NLE systems, and I'm not that hot on the tech side of how MC works, but I'd have thought with the matrix of QT versions etc that this is going to have implications.
In hindsight?
Yes, fine. It became evident some time ago that relying on Apple for anything you wish to use professionally was a poor idea.Better? :)
This is no surprise. I'm actually very happy if we can close the chapter quicktime and move on to something professional.

Most worrisome is that there are two security vulnerabilities and proven that they will not be corrected by APPLE. APPLE even publishes on its website how to uninstall QuickTime (https://support.apple.com/HT205771).I hope that a replacement solution will rapidly and for that matter fully x64 because the version of QuickTime on Windows has always remained in x32 bits.
happily just uninstalled it from my office computer....and glad my Avid computer isn't hooked into the interwebs.
This is no surprise since QT7 has been dead on OS X for a while now.
I am hoping this means QTX/AV Foundation is migrated to Windows. While limited in functionality now compared to QT7, it is a faster system.

My vote is to replace .mov with .mxf. MXF is multi-platform, open source(?), etsablished, and already part of Media Composer
M-Power Independent Video and Film Services, Sony PMW-F5--Sony FS700U--Canon 7d--Odyssey 7Q
My question is: What would potentially take the place of Quicktime reference exports?
I'm guessing the good people at Avid are thinking about that right now.
Thanks guys, I already alerted Marianna about this. I'll keep you updated.

Ralph
