Hi,
Is this possible?
I have ama clips that have been transcoded. I am using plural eyes to sync sound but it will not accept the transcoded footage so I have to send it the ama clips and sound. I get a new sequence back form plural eyes which has the ama clips synced to the sound, in the bin is also the cloned ama clips that appear in the sequence. Can I relink these ama clips to the clips I have transcoded?
Many Thanks.
Unfortunately no. You'll have to associate everything manually, using timecode as your mental reference. There's no software code within Composer that can automatically mux all that metadata into one shiny, happy result.

I see. Thanks for letting me know.
I'm teaching myself MC at the moment and trying to work out the conventional Plural Eyes workflow.
So with hindsight would the best approach have been to Plural Eyes the AMA clips, autosync the results, then transcode?
Or is that still a no no?
The advice from RedGiant only seems to mention AMA, so not too sure how transcoded material fits in to that workflow - perhaps it's an indication that it does not! Or at least not very well...
Two ways to approach this.
One is, as you suggested to send the original AMA'd clips from an Avid sequence to PluralEyes, sync, then transcode.
The other is to transcode initially to a codec that PluralEyes accepts. I've been using Avid's proxy resolutions happily as well as various flavors of DNxHD.
Though, re-reading your post, what error messages are you getting when you're relinking your transcodes to the AMA-PluralEyes synced sequence? It generally works unless you've transcoded to a non-native framerate.
Thanks for your advice. I think I may have two blind spots in my knowledge here:
1) Getting Plural Eyes to read MXF files.
The trancodes I have made are DNxHD 36. I put these in a sequence with the sound and export an AAF.
Plural Eyes accepts the AAF but the video files are listed as an 'unsupported format'
The files are 1080 25p but Plural Eyes reads them as 29.97fps. When I go to sync the error message is:
Synchronization cannot proceed because of a problem with one or more media files.
Problems were found in 14 files. Only the first 5 files are shown:
SO1682.new.01559BC07C.mxf: Unsupported format
SO1683.new.01559BC07C.mxf: Unsupported format
SO1684.new.01559BC07C.mxf: Unsupported format
SO1685.new.01559BC07D.mxf: Unsupported format
SO1686.new.01559BC07D.mxf: Unsupported format
2) Is it possible to relink AMA files to Transcoded files?
If I can do this I can solve my problem as I have a sequecne of AMA files that Plural Eyes was happy to sync.
Any advice apreciated.
To relink your sqeuence, to the transcoded files, did you try:
-Select all your transcoded clips in your bin, DEselect your Linked clips (even close the bins that have your linked clips)
-Right-click your sequence, RELINK...
-Select "Selected items in ALL open bins"
-For safety, you can enable the "Create new sequences" option at the bottom.
If you did your transcode within MC, then your sequence should link to the media you selected. In this case, transcoded media. This procedure is a good way to relink between Linked and Consolidated/Transcoded media.
PERFECT!
Thank you usatraveller. That is exactly what I needed to know.
It worked a treat.
