    Conform from Media Composer 6.5

I need a little help with this one...  I have a project that started in FCP and then producer on project changed and the project went out of town and was "tweaked" in AVID MC6.5.  The project was sent back to us for final conform... on a hard Drive with the MC project and files.  When I export to DS (tried AAF and AFE) the clips are coming in to proper tracks etc., but every video clip is in a timewarp container... no speed adjustment, but the cotainers all have 00:00:00;00 timecode... NOT AT ALL desirable.  The MC sequence was 1080i 29.97 (59.94) So I started with 1080i 59.94 in the DS... then tried 1080p 29.97, all with the same results...  What am I doing wrong?  Then there is the re-linking issue... but first things first!

Thanks for any assistance ---  Scott

Everything looks fine in MC... all media present.  (except one music track) ( video track and roughly 12 audio tracks...

When in MC, if you look at the media of the basic footage, what is it's format?  Does it say 29.97p or 59.94i?

Project is 1080i,  Format of clips is 1080i 59.94 and I added the "FPS"  and it says 29.97

What happens if you select a clip and AFE it alone and open that afe in DS?

Avid DS must conform the clips in Time Effects if the MC timeline contains mixed clips at frame rates that don't match precisely the MC sequence. Then, the timewarp result is by design.

Another thing that I must mention, even though it is probably obvious to you, is that Avid DS 10.5 does not conform from MC 6.5. This DS release supports an earlier MC build, otherwise we cannot guarantee compatibility between versions. There are many AAF Toolkit (including AFE) changes when new versions are released, so code modification is unavoidable.

Then that tells me you have not accurately identified the frame rate of the source clips.

Could the source clips be 29.97p in a 59.94i MC sequence?  Look at the clips in MC sequence.  Do they have little green dots on them?  If so there is a frame rate mismatch there that MC is dealing with.  You could Modify the sequence to match the true frame rate of the source.  If you can get rid of the little green dots (if they are present) you MIGHT have better results.

But I would keep trying the AFE conform of one clip with DS set in different project setting to ty and figure out what is the match.

By the way what codec is that material exactly?

Plus maybe the answer is to transcode the sequence in MC to DNX and then AFE that media.

Just throwin out some ideas here.

    Good luck,

    Jef
