    Graphics Link capabilities

Is there a chart of what formats are available when you use the Graphics Link vers?

I'm taking the Graphics Link out for a spin and love the concept! Great idea!

I've been through the set up and it works well audio still comes down the digital output, but I'm just a bit perplexed by the restrictions:

It works in 2K 10bit but not 4K or higher bits, it also doesn't give an output in say the RED or Arri preset formats at any resolution I think.

I was expecting the 10bit restriction and I can imagine that different setups could give different options but I was expecting 4K and RED to work. Have I missed something here?

I'm using DS 10.8.2 on a Z800 Nvidia graphics and an OLED connected via HDMI -

The instructions seem brief and don't really give detail about what you may or may not get out of this.

    Anyone have more insight? Huh?

You can link to pretty much any file type your OS supports, any Quicktime that you have a codec for. In addition, you can link to DPX, R3D, OpenEXR and other formats.

While there may be some spatial resolution limit, I haven't seen it yet. You can certainly link 4k files and larger in any resolution sequence.

OpenEXR is the only supported format that lets you utilize higher than 10 depth. While RED is technically 12 bit linear, it is delivered to DS through RED SDK as 10 bit (log, most of the time).

A chart of supported formats with the Graphics Link option is available at http://aviddssupport.avid.com/index.htm?section=configurations/ds_10_supported_formats.htm.

Yes, 4K is supported but not for real-time playback.

Some users have reported real time playback with appropriately fast storage, but officially real time 4k playback is not supported. I can tell you from experience that Avid VideoRaid SR storage will playback 4k in near real time with a lot of dropped frames.

    Re: Graphics Link capabilities

I'm just wondering if I am getting the full picture then....

For me, if I set up a 4K sequence although the HD output settings allow me the option of 1080p output this does not come up on my 2nd graphics output .... it remains with a desktop extension. ... Do you think I am getting all that is possible from the Graphics Link application, or have I missed a setting somewhere?

The HD Output settings is valid for the AJA card output, not the graphics link.  GL will display up to 2K in real-time on the secondary monitor, that is as long as the storage allows a fast enough data stream for that frame size.  4K is currently outside of the supported range.
