On one of the pages there is a link to older versions. At the bottom of page.

After employing the complicated search tool known as "Google" in conjunction with Radman's earlier subtle clue that the link is at the bottom of one of the pages, I found this:

    http://support.apple.com/downloads/#quicktime

Don't try to "Google" things yourselves; this is a highly-complex technique that should only be used by professionals.

Re: Down load link to latest Quicktime.

    Hi Carl

Ahem ... where on the "hard to find" site would I find Quicktime 7.7 for Windows?

    I can only see 7.7.1

But in the read-me of MC6 it says that Avid wants Quicktime 7.7

It seams that this was published in August 2011 but has now disappeared for 7.7.1

    Apple ... (sigh)

But hey ... Thanks to my highly skilled and advanced google search techniques I found 7.70.80.34 here

    Cheers

    7.6.9 works fine here.

7.7 has been removed for security reasons from Apple.

Not George, but quoting Apple: "A buffer overflow existed in QuickTime's handling of PICT (and JPEG2000) files.  Viewing a maliciously crafted PICT (and JPEG2000) files may lead to an unexpected application termination or arbitrary code execution."

Also: "A cross-origin issue existed in QuickTime plug-in's handling of cross-site redirects.  Visiting a maliciously crafted website may lead to the disclosure of video data from another site.  This issue is addressed by preventing QuickTime from following cross-site redirects."

And: "An integer overflow existed in QuickTime's handling of RIFF WAV files.  Playing a maliciously crafted WAV file may lead to an unexpected application termination or arbitrary code execution"

    There's a comprehensive list here.
