lunelson: My question is: if they've enabled the use of the Artist series control surfaces, does that mean we can adjust audio on the fly now?
My question is: if they've enabled the use of the Artist series control surfaces, does that mean we can adjust audio on the fly now?
I asked for permission to tell this and just got it so here we go..
I have been testing the Artist Transport for a while using my own customized settings for it, I am already in love with it, so are you all going to be I believe.
Using my own customized presets together with some minor adjustments to my keyboard makes it possible for me that, on a Software only system, specs as below, adjust, for example, the Avid audio filters on the fly whilst playing and listening, you can, for example, On the Fly adjust all of the parameters into the 7 band Equalizer using only the Jog wheel.
I have also programmed the Transport to be used with most of the Avid and Boris Effects, just to rotate the knob to scale up or down, right or left or do other adjustments as you want it to be, no more mouse dragging for me.
I have also programmed it to be used with Matrox Vetura player, a couple of my Adobe applications and TAW 4, more apps to come.
To use it on multiple workstations also works well and if you have it programmed for it your keyboard and mouse will follow you to control that other station.

Here is what Oliver posted on the L2 user group. Emphasis mine.
OliverPeters:> think I'll just sit back and wait for a few patches on this one... > swChicken! Actually there's not a lot that's changed in the core functionality ofMC, so this is probably a pretty "patched up" version already. The rough spotsmight be in the new features, but these appear to be primarily "add-ons", suchas expanded plug-ins for AMA and PhraseFind. Some key points for people who want the cliff notes:- AJA Io express support (with ingest and deck control)- PhraseFind (option) - this is like Get grafted into the MC interface as a"Find" function- Hardware option for Nitris DX for accelerated, multi-stream AVC-Intra support- HDCAM SR Lite software codec support in AMA- EuCon support - so 3 of the 4 Artist panels supported (not Artist Color)- Audio I/O with ProTools hardware- Expanded RTAS plug-in support (use more PT plug-ins)- A few more odds and ends- NOTE: This is the last version to support 32-bit OSs as well as AdrenalinehardwareOne curiosity. I see in the screen grabs that they used images with shadedbuttons. Not sure if the UI appearance choices have been tweaked or if these aremerely mistakes on the website. - Oliver

HOLY COW!!!! I don't have to buy a Nitris to capture analog video??? I want it NOW!!!!!
It would seem to be a fair assumption that this new version of MC has had some of the bugs from 5.0 resolved. For example the Smart Tool.
Why hasn't some kind of information been released to the installed user base, via the Mods, to tell us what the plans for the future development of MC5 are?
I find this insulting

Another paid for upgrade while MC 5 is not even up to speed, no comment on that. At Avid they keep doing all they can do to avoid damaging their over-expensive proprietary hardware, after supporting the MXO2 monitoring device, but please do not dare to monitor whichever frame rate You'd be pleased to monitor, they will now support another piece of crippled down hardware, with SDI I/O only, so if You need analog I/O Your only choice is Nitris DX; now I see why the code to turn off the smart tool in MC 5 hasn't been written: the people at Avid are too busy to find underpowered I/O devices to support with the next release in order to punish customers who are not willing to buy a Nitris DX... After YEARS of asking for third party hardware support we're not there yet, but Avid pretends to be there, and Aja Io Express support is an attempt to fool naive customers.

All they care is the profit. Because there isn't any real progress on 5.5 other than adding hardware
bypassing many things that should be resolved.
I think by agreeing completely with what luca said, this is more clear than ever now.
If you want to have just output you have to pay 500.
If you want to capture (by another device) you have to pay 1000.
And to play with fancy hardware as they do in mixing houses
you have to buy another thing.
Sorry for asking but where is the passion for editing?
P.S. And if you want to search for a clip another 500.

Larry Rubin:I also was provided with no advance moderator's "heads up" about this new release, and have no details.
I consider this unacceptable by Avid....Mods should have at least a heads up that something news is in the pipeline and release date...and a preview of the release...Avid communications strike again!

Don't be too excited at the IO express. NO analog video in (Keep your MOJO), no analog audio in, embedded audio in SDI only. So how would you capture HDSDI with external audio? You Can't! Why not enable the MXO2? It can do EVERYTHING! Oh, yeah, there are those pesky Nitris and Mojo boxes around for that...sorry....

mjolnarn: Maybe someone could explain to me, as I cannot understand it, I am seeing a lot of unhappy users into this thread and the reason is that Avid is developing new versions from what I understand. Would you be more or less happy if Avid stopped developing new things and only was living in the past?

I agree 1,000%. If the upgrade isn't worth it, then don't buy it.
I am VERY HAPPY that Avid continues to upgrade the app at what almost feels like a breakneck pace. It has been neglected for years. There is a lot of catch-up to do.
I just hope they didn't remove or break anything in the process.
I do hope that PhraseFind is included if someone buys ScriptSync. To have pay for BOTH would be pretty unfair since they use the same technology.

It's unclear to me as to whether or not they have addressed the numerous concerns that have been voiced for months from experienced users. On the surface, it appears not. It's hard to tell, as only a promotional page has been released with no comment from Avid to the members of this community on this subject. I'm not all all optimistic at this point.
WWLD?
You are right about the MXO2 Mini, MXO2 LE was what I was referring to, sorry I didn't make that point. The MXO2 LE has everything in and out simultaneously, except for now there is no 24 frame support, but I'm sure they are working on that. That box especially with their MAX option for accelerated H264 would be IDEAL for use with MC. IF only!
There is a lot of questions that have been posted in a lot of threads so I will try to answer as best as I can.
Price, if you are on 5.0, the upgrade price is US $149. There is a ton of value in 5.5 and we did not want to penalize customers who are on 5.0.
PhraseFind- It's incredible and worth the $495. We created this in a partnership with Nexidia. This is an option that plug's into Media Composer 5.5. Take a look at the videos that Matt F posted for more information.
If you are v5 and you want to purchase PhraseFind or ScriptSync, we will give you a free upgrade(download only) to Media Composer 5.5.
Matrox MXO2 Mini- While we only support output at this point, we have made improvements by supporting progressive frame rate formats. In addition, we are formally supporting the MAX technology
Larry, check your e-mail box, the moderator information was released an hour ago
Bugs, we will continue to fix issues and release patches on V5. Please keep reporting your issues.
Dave
not gambling with this again. they add features but did you fix the bugs??? and no im not going to pay for an upgrade because of what happened with 5.
