    DVD subtitling issues (AvidDVD)

Following my discovery of DVD production workflow....

When viewing a movie with subtitles created by AvidDVD, sometimes parts of a multiline caption remain visible "through" subsequent single-line captions. Like if a multiline caption doesn't get fully erased when reaching its hide timing.

However, I noticed this only with the Corel WinDVD software player on my computer; another user reported the same issue with my DVD on another computer (not sure what software player was used there); Windows 7 Media Player does NOT show this problem and the same DVD was tested on a couple of real DVD players without problem...

So is this a DVD decoder issue or a problem with AvidDVD subtitles (showing up on some players only) ?

BTW, not being totally familiar with DVD subtitling technology, I wonder where the subtitles rendering occurs ? Does the multiplexed stream on the finished DVD contain the subtitles as text (to be rendered by the player) or as bitmaps (rendered by the authoring application) ? I ask this because even simple fonts like Arial or Tahoma look quite bad at 20 pt (no antaliasing, irregular stroke width, etc.) & wonder how to achieve better-looking results.

    Tx for any tip
