Insert 700+ Images for Stop Motion Easily

    Hey,

New to the forums. I am a Avid Composer user at my college. I need to create a stop motion video with the 800 images I have taken. Basically, I want to import all of the images and make it so there are three images per second. Without manually dragging the images into new times, is there an easy way to make the images all point 3 seconds as I am importing them or after I do.

Does any of this make sense? haha thanks for your time!

I would use After Effects for this project.

Why not use File->Import and set "detect sequential files". As long as the filename ends in an increasing number, this will create a sequence from your stills. You can add a motion effect to this clip to slow in down to the speed you prefer.

Or import all clips with a duration set at 1 second.

Then with your graphics bin in script view select all clips you want use.
Press T to set marks at both ends.

Press Q to go to mark in.

Press 2 key once to advance 10 frames.

Press I key to mark in
Press W key to go to out.

Press 1 key to go back 10 frames.

Press O ley to Mark out.

All clips are now marked IN and Out with a duration of 10 frames which will give you three shots per second in NTSC. Drag all the clips to your timeline

The auto sequencing in AE let's you quickly experiment with the speed of the animation.  As Job and Andrew have pointed out, there plenty of ways to skin the cat.  Although I haven't had much luck myself with using script view for long periods of time (due to crashes), but that's an entirely different thread.

Can't swear to it, but I believe there might be a console command that lets you change default still import duration to a specific number of FRAMES, not just a specific number of SECONDS.  You'd use that command, set import duration to 10 frames (in NTSC land - or maybe 8 frames in PAL land or for a 24p project).  Then, just drop all the images into a sequence.

Perhaps the more direct method, however, is the above-mentioned auto-detect sequential images method, and use a timewarp to get them to the speed you want.
