Thank you for getting to the truth of the matter. i really appreciate your honesty. That's why i am upset, i want avid to be the best, fastest, most stable, 64 bit editing system available. i don't want to use anything else. i just want avid to be the best.

I've been working with Avid for 16 years, starting out as a frontline Phone Support rep in the Avid Burbank office.  I think we're all on the same page about wanting Avid to be the very best.  Although improvements and/or change seem to be slow in coming at times, Avid is actually more communicative and responsive than ever before.  One prime example is Marianna Montague, who as Customer Advocate, can take your requests, questions, and concerns directy to the most likely personnel at Avid to respond.

Might i also sugges that if you ARE going to send Marriana or anyone at Avid an email, you carefully consider your tone.  Your tone on this forum comes off as quite combative.  Marianna and the people at Avid take their jobs very seriously, and quite personally.  I know I wouldn't want to recieve a cold-message from someone who had the combative attitude your posts have.  I might also be reluctant to answer it.  It would most certainly go to the bottom of my pile.

And as an aside, why MUST it be 64bit? what are the specific features are you looking for that you are not getting from the 32bit version of Media Composer?

The premise of this thread - or the complaint - seems to be that Premiere Pro CS5 with 64-bit processing is somehow head and shoulders above Media Composer 5 with 32-bit processing. In actual practice, that simply isn't true. Yes, PPro can exceed an HD size limit, but in fact RED, H264, ProRes, AVC-Intra and other formats appear just as easy to deal with in MC5 as they do in Premiere Pro, when you start working with actual projects.

by upgrading to 64 bit, you may LOSE some functionality for the price of more meory. for example 3rd party plugins will have to ALL be 64bit. an example is when i decided to install a 64bit version of sonar 8.5 on my system, and it was a bad mistake! alot of very good plugins would not work in the 64bit environment and rewire apps would prove to be broken and useless, plus quikctime videos did not work inside it....so i decided ti install the 32bit version. of course this thread isnt about sonar, but upgrading to 64bit on any app (e.g. Adobe) proves to be a hassle everyone has to cope with...but hey more memory resources right?

Then again, doing effect-jobs on offlines is a kind of meh, I don't see the real potential of good plug-ins except when you are doing the online, which is quite impossible to achieve if you don't have the power.

If Final Cut goes 64 bit, then how will Avid approach? As I said in other threads, making a big update and creating a buzz in the industry is something to keep up with, not something to do once and think it will last for years. MC5 was just step one and there are so many steps to the top. Technology is moving fast, prices are going down, Avid has to keep up or else, one day they will look upon their customer forum and look at it as a post-apocalypse desert and ask... how did this happen? And the ones still left will say: "duh...  bye"

No, DS 10.5 does not work with Nitris DX. The full hardware I/O system requires the Kona 3 hardware. Here are the DS minimal system requirements. DS software only solution MSRP pricing is $9,995 USD.

Since the topic of this thread really is not a features request, I am moving it to the General Discussions Forum.

I would ask the OP why 64bit is such an absolute necessity in the here and now? Other than bragging rights, that is? Avid is already cutting 99% of all major Hollywood motion pictures. What more could you want it to do? When the 32bit architecture is no longer capable of meeting the needs of the largest customers, I'm sure Avid will have come out with a solution by then.
