Import .avi file from Nikon DSLR in MC5?

Does anyone have experience with importing .avi files from Nikon D90 DSLR?  I managed to get clips imported, but couldn't do any effects with them.  Indicated 0 frames available either side of cut.

Mediainfo tells me .avi video is: 21.5 Mbps, 1280x720, 24.000 FPS, M-JPEG and

audio: 178.4 Kbps, 16 bits, 1 channel, PCM.

Steve, in order to do transition effects between clips, you must allow "handles" - footage frames beyond the mark in and the mark out that are at least equal in duration to the duration of the effect itself. So, for example, if you want a 30 frame dissolve between two clips, your out mark must be at least 30 frames back from the end frame of clip 1, and the in mark at least 30 frames in from the start frame of clip 2.

    Steve,

As Larry says........ It is a question of Handles.

Here is a more detailed explanation of Handles.

Re: Import .avi file from Nikon DSLR in MC5?

Thanks for the help with handles.  I'm still not sure on the import - as I try different import settings, I'm getting strange results, such as, last frame of each clip is narrower than 16:9.

Could it be that .avi files from a Nikon DSLR aren't standard?

You have different aspect ratio choices in the options section of the import tool.

Re: Import .avi file from Nikon DSLR in MC5?

Yes, but not clear which are correct settings to use - .avi clips from Nikon D90 are HD 720 16x9

    Mediainfo shows -

    VIDEO: 21.5 Mbps, 1280x720, 24.000 FPS, M-JPEG

AUDIO: 178.4 Kbps, 16 bits, 1 channel, PCM

I have tried different settings and some create a dimensionally smaller last frame.  Also not sure which setting will give best quality?
