    Import MOD files

Anybody knows good solution how to get MOD files to Avid MC5?  I have to use a few MOD files from Panasonic camcorder in my documentary film.

    Re: Import MOD files

.mod files are a panasonic version of an mpeg2 file... if you search the forums you will see some suggestions on how to get an mpeg 2 into avid.  You will need to convert the mpeg 2 files to a file that avid likes (qt or avi) using mpeg streamclip or sorenson squeeze.

I tried import MOD file to last version of Sorenson Squeeze but it freezes program and I cannot transcode it.

    Re: Import MOD files

try renaming the .mod as .mpeg or .mpg,  Sorenson may have a better time reading it.

FWIW - If the original footage is interlaced, I do not regularly get good results using sorenson to convert to qt for avid import.  I have used mpeg streamclip on the mac and it does a better job of converting the interlaced mpeg2 footage to dv quicktime.  I believe on the pc side you need to purchase the quicktime mpeg2 decoder to get streamclip to work -- its like $20 on the apple site.

Others may have suggestions for getting sorenson to properly deinterlace/interlace.

Indeed, and perhaps with MC 5 You will be able to import the files without going the Squeeze/MPEG Streamclip way.

    Re: Import MOD files

Just renaming MOD file to MPG is not enough to import directly to MC5 ("This file type is not supported"). But I can import them to Sorenson Squezze 6 and export as Motion JPEG (Apple Motion JPEG A Same as Source + audio Linear PCM) and import to Avid. It looks fine. No problem with interlaced video.
