I receive the following error after upgrading to MC 5 from 4. I have an academic license:

Bus error in thread main thread, at address 0x0



My system is an 8 core 2.26 mac pro with a UL5D and two external SCSI arrays. I am running 10.6.5 I have no special fonts installed as I read up online this could be an issue. Any help would be appreciated.

UPDATE:  I am actually running 10.6.4 as 10.6.5 does not exist yet.  I have actually gone through the uninstall and reinstall process and I am up and running.  I am blown away that it does not tell you to do this anywhere.

Are you aware that 10.6.4 is not approved yet?   Most often this is caused by either a. updated OS install and NOT a clean one or b. non suported OS/QT or.... c. corrupt application install or... d. font issues.

hunston, i'm sorry but i didn't quite get what you meant in your last post. i have the exact same problem as you describe in your first post. i'm also having a student version av avid 5.0.1 upgraded from 4 on a macbook pro. how did you solve the problem more exact?

It happened with me in version 3.5, 4, 5 and now 5.03.

Tried every source and every forum known and came up empty handed on a firm solution.

I found oout about 2 weeks ago that what was causing the issue was my USB earphone.

Everytime I was using MC and switched the sys prefs from digital out to USB earphone I had the issue a few minutes later.

Now I dont have the buss error....... anymore,

if your problem still exists in OSX 10.6.4, there is another solution. After installation, delete the file Caption.avx. It can be found by right clicking on the programm, open "Show Package contents", in there "Shared support", AVX2_Plug-ins, where you can find the file Caption.avx. After you have deleted it, MC 5.0.3 will start normally, though I haven't tested it thoroughly yet. So I don't know what will be the consequence(s) of the deletion.

By the way, my 20" iMac Intel Core2Duo 2.0 Ghz doesn't seem te be a "qualified Mac" for MC 5 (or even any version of MC), but it works fine.
