anyone know where I can get a dvd decoder

Hi all quick,  I while back I did a clean install of XP and everything is fine. I just tried to play a DVD and I was told that I have a decoder error. Media player will not play the dvd at all. The region is set right I just don't have a clue were to find the decoder to download. Any help is appreciate it.
