Hello everyone. I am new to the board. I have a question. My station is getting the new JVC HM700u camera, we have avid editing systems at the office. The office is wanting to just get rid of the Avids and go to Final Cut because "thats what the camera people said to do." Those of us that love Avid are going kicking and screeming and I am wondering if someone can list for me the step by step directions for getting hm700u video into MC so that we can show them we don't need to throw away the avids. Thanks in advance.
Colton
This uses the same codec as Sony EX.
I think it works by AMA.
Those camera people should change their jobs.

And your managers are listening to editing advice offered up by camera people, who may or may not have an editing experience, instead of asking the editors for input? Hmmm, what's wrong with this picture? Would your manager choose a particular family MD because "that's what a hopsital patient I talked to said to do"?

The 700 records both in Quick Time and XD CAM EX or .mp4 format. You have to shoot in .mp4 to work with MC and in QT for FCP. If you do it conversly you either have to convert or import it to work with.
Edit You need SxS Card to record .mp4

I'm guessing MC5 will work with either the mp4's or the mov's?
The mp4's should definitely work, as we can import those now. The QT's will depend on whether an Avid compatible codec is used or not.
I use the HM700 with record setting to MP4. After shooting, I copy the SDHC-card to my harddisk. From within Media Composer I use AMA and have the clips available instantly including metadata. This procedure is extremely quick - I love it.
