"Media Composer 5 is coming soon, but why wait? Buy or upgrade to Media Composer 4, starting April 12, 2010, and get a free upgrade to Media Composer 5 when it’s available."
Does this mean that if we upgraded from Liquid as soon as it was available, we won't be eligible for the free upgrade? But if we waited a month we will be?
I hope Avid have thought this through ....

This should have been June 3rd which is my birthday.
I think we've agreed on that Avid. Come on.
Oh well I guess I will wait some days more.

OK I have started counting.
I think this MUST be Pinned!
5.000.000 seconds!!!
Come on Avid, you can do better than that.
Maybe if we all in the forums click in the link many times a day we could speed the process?
Holy crap. Well done Avid. Next key question: how much to upgrade from MC4?
Very happy about Canon DSLR support, if Canon would hurry up and add manual audio control to the firmware for the 550D it'll become the perfect indie cinematography tool.
ProRes support is a great move, will now be able to collaborate better with my FCP toting colleagues.
And thank goodness we finally have cheap HD monitoring. We've all been pestering for a long time, and by letting Matrox in the door they've given us an amazing price point.
An announcement from Avid on upgrade paths and pricing will be forthcoming. Stay tuned.

Another new feature:
"A “paging” timeline — when you play off the right edge of the timeline, it jumps forward, so you are always seeing the blue cursor. "

I'm coming this a little late in the game - slightly hungover from birthday celebrations - but OMG. I'm seriously gobsmacked. The implications of AMA and XDcam improvements alone will have a massive impact on out workflow.
This whole New Thinking/New Management thing is amazing. Kudos to everyone at Avid. This will be the release everyone will remember for a while.
And we've still got the whole Avid Editing On The Web details to come...

Yes, the idea of using the application online anywhere, anytime is a huge boost. I'm wondering if that relieves the terminal computer from the stringent system requirements, which would be borne entirely by the host system? If so, then we would truly have a "one size fits all" Avid.
omg i upgraded 5weeks ago =*( dam it!!
Jay:Don't give up hope. Upgrade announcements from Avid will be forthcoming. Stay tuned...
PRAISE THE LORD!!
Almost sold out to FCP 8 years ago, but didn't.
Almost sold 800 shares of Avid stock 4 years ago, at a huge loss , but didn't.
After having owned nearly every MC system since 1992, this upgrade truly validates my decision to stick with the company I built a career around.
GO AVID!
Hi,
is worth to buy a 6 core processor actually the intel 980X or it will be useless buy?
if upgrade from liquid to MC 4 now I will get MC5 for free? will this free upgrade with all the 3rd party programs like the upgrade from liquid to MC4?
Regards
Ugo
cjvm:I held back making the Liquid to MC4 upgrade, waiting on the NAB news. I hope this means that if I order MC4 upgrade next week, I can later get the free MC5 upgrade. Also the updated Production Pack.

You'll have to wait for the system requirements to be made publicly available to make a decision, my best guess is that only HP-Mac-Dell workstations will be supported, going off the specs, as usual, it's up to You; on the other hand MC 5 will be compatible with the Matrox I/O box: perhaps Avid will show more openness with regards to generic PC hardware too, or at least I hope so, again after NAB more detailed info will come, as soon as Marianna and the other Avid people will have the time to partecipate in the forums...
