Guys,
Though I was tempted to start a new thread - as I think this one has gone a little 'off thread' - I am having a nightmare situation with P&Z in 4.0.2.
Essentially, I can't get it to switch out of the temporary "preview" resolutions on the higher end filters.
In other words, if I render in Avid Ultra Quality, once it renders it still "sticks" in the preview resolution, even though it took as long as it should to render.
It's also not consistent. Sometimes it will actually show me the correct results. I've tried recreating them from scratch and again, sometimes this works, but sometimes not. I've even stripped out all other clips from the sequence, but to no avail (my memory usage is minimum and I'm 64 bit anyway).
Is anybody else seeing this behaviour?

I have the same problem on the Mac side. Sometimes it will also render black and I need to replace the image to get it to render correctly.
Thanks, good to know it's not just me. The pain is that sometimes my 'workarounds' still won't fix it. Neither does turning my machine on/off and a dozen other things I've tried. BCC doesn't provide the best results either so I may have to farm them to to AE.
Hopefully one of the Moderators can forward this to Avid Tech.
I was having a similar problem - using the Clear All Caches command within the P&Z plugin seemed to fix it. My problem may have been different though...
Thanks Swil, I tried that and didn't fix it.
I'm having a little more success making them from scratch and restarting a lot, but still not 100%.
Now that it appears to be a 'bug' hopefully somebody will send it 'upstairs'...
There's definitely something up with P&Z - I was also getting problems with my source images just flat out disappearing after I did another P&Z effect somewhere else. If I went back to the P&Z with the missing source and hit the little browse button it'd refresh it (without me needing to select it again).

This is the same thing I see. Problem is many times it will render black in place of the image even after refreshing. Or if I have dissolves between two P&Z images it will render the dissolve as black. Something has definitely changed from 3.5, I never had this problem before 4.0.2.
Any one else?
Outpostbc,
I find the same. Even when I re-load the image and it returns, it then has the render/preview issue I mentioned. And I have to re-build the thing from scratch and hope for the best.
Looks like P&Z is indeed buggy in 4.0.2, can someone moddish do the escalation dance with this thread and get someone at Avid to take a good hard look at P&Z?
We've heard from three or four users experiencing problems with P&Z in 4.0.2 - anyone running 4.0.2 not having problems with P&Z?
Would you folks having problems with P&Z please document a quick 1-5 step process to reproduce your problems? I tried P&Z last night (just a couple of clips with P&Z) and it worked fine. I didn't try a dissolve between adjacent P&Z clips. What else should we try?

I'm working in 1080/59.94 at the minute, and the non-switching from preview resolution issue seems to happen if I changed the filter, so:
- Create a P&Z
- Render at the best quality (Avid Ultra)
- If no issues, select the next render filter up the list (slightly less quality) and re-render.
This appears to be where it stops working. And then it won't render any P&Z in that session and switch from preview resolution.
Thanks for checking on this BarkingMadd
I was working in a 30I project with a ton of stills. I would apply P&Z and start out at a Gaussian quality, render. Then when I stepped up to a higher quality and re render, the quality would never get better. Start from scratch on same image with Avid high quality and it would render high quality. Total hit or miss when this would happen, I cannot reproduce on every P&Z effect.
Also, if I 2 back to back P&Z effects that have been rendered and then i change an image in one of them the other would disappear and I have to refresh by clicking on the button to browse for image. It would find the image but now the other image is replaced with blank. All kinds of weirdness happening.
The P&Z is very unproductive in its current form.
It sounds like a cache problem?

OK folks - reproduced this, too - do I get a badge or something to signify that I'm a club member?
Here's what I did:
1. Three clips back-to-back (actually, I sliced-up filler)
2. Drop the P&Z onto each
3. Changed the picture in each and set quality to Gausian
4. Added dissolve between each
5. Set In/Out around these clips
6. Rendered In/Out - Everything looks just fine
7. Deleted renders between In/Out - Clips 1 and 3 went black
8. Rendering again did not help
9. Editing a P&Z did not help - even setting source view did not show the picture
I can only imagine that there are many other variations of this problem, all likely stemming from a broken link to the source media.
I find it highly odd that Avid could release a version of MC that obviously did not pass a regression test for this feature.
As noted earlier - if anyone can follow this workflow and successfully get the P&Z to work, I'd really like to hear from you...
Cheers
I've had plenty of problems with P&Z and I'm on 3.1.3. It often says it's out of memory which is nonsense because there's plenty of memory available when it gives this error. Sometimes when a project is closed and opened later, all the P&Z effects are black and have to be re-rendered. There has also been a few times where it crashed the whole system to the point I had to do a hard reset to get it going again. I've had so much trouble with it that I've pretty much given up on using this effect even though I really like and need it.
It seems this particular effect (the only one that gives me trouble) needs some serious work. I've reported it before but it hasn't had the attention it needs. And it really needs an angle setting!
Let's hope it gets some attention!
