About 2 years ago, when I was still using Avid Liquid, I was having such a tough time climbing the learning paths to Boris FX and Boris Grafitti (I had bought them as alternatives to the more expensive After Effects) that I searched for a cheaper easier to learn compositing programme.I needed to make a volcano errupt!
After a lot of searching I found Particle Illusion.Last week I read on Creative Cow's website that the relatively unknown Particle Illusion was to be exhibited at NAB 2009.So, I felt that this tutorial might be of extra interest to anyone looking for a compositing programme with an easy learning slope....
The article on Creative Cow's forum is to be found HERE!
AE is still out of reach for me, but I find that Avid FX is more than enough for the simple effects I need in my editing style and needsWith the exception of errupting volcanoes!.
Good luck and Regards,Douglas

Wow, that was quick! Do you ever sleep?
Nice introduction to pI, btw. It's really a nice app and you can do wonderful things with it.
Keep it up, regards g_f
wow...thanks for your MANY tutorials....im a newbie at this and im trialing it right now and i waNt to decide which to choose.....fcp or avid.......i was going towards fcp becuase one of my buddies has it but im willing to give avid more in depth look becuase this is nothing like ive ever used before...its fast but the layout is much diffferent than most NLE's out there........

Actually, I find that to be a surprising observation.
All of the other NLE's built their own layout based on the Avid. They all pretty much have a place to organize your project assets, a Timeline, a place to view the video frames of the assets for edit decisions and another viewer that shows you the video frames of what the Timeline is comprised of.
What do you feel is so different about the layout of Avid vs. FCP, for example?

basically the different views for editing, color corection, and source footage ve never seen an nle like this where its seperate for each function...and well avid looks more technically advanced i say
