    True HD through Avid

    Hello everyone!

Thanks for taking the time to help me out!

I am trying to find an efficient way to view true HD (1080p/23.976) on Avid using a 56-inch HD monitor. My problem is that I know that in Avid, when I edit my piece(s) using a firewire drive, that effectively disables true HD viewing. So is there an solid method to viewing true HD while I'm editing (after I render, of course)? What sort of equipment/hub is necessary for the implementation of this process?

Again, thanks for your time! Any posts will be greatly appreciated!

What is True HD vs. HD?  But to answer your question, just plug a cable into the HD-SDI output of your Avid and plug the other end into the monitor and that's it.  This presumes you are using a Nitris DX with fast enough drives to support 1080p not firewire drives.  If not this configuration, then what system are you using?

Slipped when I said "true". I merely meant viewing the edits as 1080p/23.976.

We are currently using Media Composer Soft. As opposed to purchasing any high end Avid equipment, are there any affordable/inexpensive methods/solutions to our issue?

Without hardware the only option is Full Screen Playback. If you need HD-SDI or Component HD a Matrox MXO could be used, but neither is a replacement for Avid hardware.

I would consider this low cost monitoring. This is not broadcast finishing quality.
