    Re: G5's, MacPro's & MC 3

I'm looking from moving up from Apple Final Cut Express to MC3.

Although my machine a 17" Macbook Pro Intel Core Duo 2.16 shows up as a qualified device Avids minimum requirements contradict this by stating:

processors (minimum): Intel core 2 Duo 2.33GHz

My system isn't a core 2 nor is it 2.33GHz.

My question is will it work?  Is anybody using this setup and if so can you give me an idea of how many realtime streams of DV and HDV you can edit without rendering.

    Many thanks,

    Simon.

    Re: G5's, MacPro's & MC 3

Upgraded to 3.1 seems to running smoothly on the G5 Dual 2 Ghz, 6 megs of ram, with mojo.
P2 import also seems to be working now--whooopi!  Big Smile  Had to purchase the new upgrade --oh well--The price of progress.  Now I can take my old 2.7 MC and put on a PC for back up.

    Thanks for the help guys.

P2 import seems to work faster and smoother. I think they finally worked out the bugs.

Other than that I'm not sure it renders faster. I don't know what the additional features

are. Will have to read up on  them I guess.

    Re: G5's, MacPro's & MC 3

I hope my problem is also under this thread... I have an upgrade to MC 3.0.1 with a Mojo SDI running on a Dual 2Ghz Tiger G5 but it's struggling to play out video and multiple audio tracks at full resolution, so I bought a new Mac Pro Quad thinking that it would run Tiger if required - it can't. Now I can't stay with the G5 and I can't migrate to the MacPro. I'm told Avid have written a patch to fix the Firewire driver issues that have made MC3 incompatible with Leopard- is this the case? Alternately does the problem exist with MC2.8? Can I revert a project to 2.8 midstream.

    Thanks.

    You can.

This is not the case. 3.0.1 was released to allow the DNAs to work with Tiger but this patch has to come from Apple as it is their bug.

The problem is not with Avid's software it is with Apple's Leopard OS. However, if yo ugo with 2.8, you have to run it om Tiger anyway so you'd be covered.

    Re: G5's, MacPro's & MC 3

Dude, I don't know why your G5 is not working. Try doing a complete un-install of the old avid software.  Un-install all the old software. (not your files) then reinstall 3.01 only--do not install 3.0 ever!  I'm running 3.01 on Tiger/Dual 2 ghz/ 6 megs/ with mojo and  just completed a 2 minute show at 1:1 and everything is working fine.

Was it a ram issue on your G5?

    Re: G5's, MacPro's & MC 3

Thanks blkdog (by the way I have two), is the issue just with the SDI/Firewire function or with the whole firewire connection between Leopard and the Mojo?

I'm seeing that some people are running 3.0.1 and Leopard on dual Mac Pros but are having probs with Quads like mine. Is there any work around to take the load off the firewire connection - at the moment all I want to do is monitor DV res. video via the Mojo.

The issue is with the FW data transfer in Leopard. Apple broke it.

Not that we've found. One thing we noticed during beta is that you can hold of the crash if you start your CPU, Launch the app and never open the capture tool.

    Re: G5's, MacPro's & MC 3

Thanks for that blkdog, I'll try it, not much else to do. I was trying to setup XP2 as an alternative OS but buried deep in Apple's instructions I find that you can't run RAID under XP2 on a Mac...

    Re: G5's, MacPro's & MC 3

One further point that I'm not clear on...does MC 2.8 (Mojo SDI) run on a MacPro Quad under 10.5 ? If it does it would solve my problem...
