hey guys - I couldnt find this anywhere in the forums - How to do change the clip order in the source window when Im in mulitcam editing mode????
Thanks for the help in advance!
Yes, this is possible. The order of your single clips in your bin will be the same like in you multicam-clip.
For example: you have clip_A, clip_B. clip_C, clip_D. If you want following order in your multicam clip: A-C-D-B, than I would recomand to rename your clips into 1_clip_A, 4_clip_B. 2_clip_C, 3_clip_D. Sorting your clips ascending will give now the succesion (order) A-C-D-B. If you are grouping the four clips NOW, your multicam clip will have this succesion (order).
It´s exactly the same issue like the question: how to decide to hear the sound of clip_C as the sound of the multicam clip? Put in the bin clip_C as the first of the row ( rename to 1_clips_C)
Good luck!

What is editing? It´s the process of transforming a collection of badly focussed or horribly framed shots containing reversed screen directions, flare and dirt into a smooth visual statement of the script... ... for which the director takes the credit!
hey pixel - thanks for the imput, much appreciated....i thought there might be a way to organize the clips in the source monitro without having to rename them, but i suppose this is not possible...sooooo, i am using your technique....
thanks!
You don't have to rename, you could use script view in the bin to rearrange them in the order you want, then create the group.
nice! thats what im talking about...great, great idea.
Thank You.
I just did a search looking for an answer to the same thing ... but I already knew the information above... so I went back to MC and did some experimenting and found the answer you REALLY wanted... how to change it in your source window without having to rename anything.
In Media composer 4.0 this worked for me:
- Make sure your source window is in multi-cam editing mode (4 or 9 screens shown)
- Press CTRL + ALT + Shift and then click on one of the 4 (or 9) video screens that you want to assign a camera to. This will pop up a drop down menu of the available video cameras (or clips) in the group.
- Click on the name of the camera you want represent that screen or slot.
- You can do this on all 4 (or 9 I'd imagine) video screens and choose what camera you want to go where.
Hope that helps! I've been wanting to know this for years and somehow stumbled upon it today. :)
Quick update on my previous post... this only changes how the multi-cam source window displays the cameras, but apparently does not change the order of the cameras within the grouped clip in the timeline.
UPDATE: At first my keyboard mapping seemed to match the clip, and not the source monitor, but now its matching the source monitor order and not the order of the group clip.... strange. Maybe opening and closing the keyboard mapping and compand pallet caused it to assign itself correctly to the source monitor instead of the group clips order. Anyway... here's what I wrote before it matched my source monitor correctly:
"My temporary work around is to remap my keyboard to match the source window and not the group clip.
i.e. before I had mapped F5, F6, F7, and F8 to be M1, M2, M3, and M4... but after moving around the cameras in my source monitor as I outlined above, I had to re-map my keyboard to follow the way I re-arranged my clips. Hope that makes sense. Obviously if you can re-name the clips before making the group clip that is ideal but this is at least a work around if that was not done correctly ahead of time.
Anyone know how to change the order of the group clip AFTER its been created vs. the renaming thing done before hand?"
