Hey everybody,

I have a Soundblaster Audigy SE that worked perfectly with 5.6.4; however, I just upgraded to 5.7 and when "initialiazing audio" boots up on the screen, Avid hangs. Any thoughts or workarounds?

I reverted back to 5.6.4, so all is well. Nevertheless - has anyone had this problem? Avid?

I had a similar issue on a MAC (grrrr), because I had the audio muted. Worth a look.

I am getting the same problem. any one got a fix

could it be to do with the digidesign audio drivers which i have not seen before?

okay i sorted that with a re install, but now it is hanging on initializing media streams.....

help please

The same happened on my system but i am on Vista X64?! Did work on XP but hang at Initialize Media Streams on X64 (Onboard nvidia audio card so no audigy Tyan 2895).

Hi,

Try deleting your media databases. Exit Avid.  Then open up your OMFI MediaFiles folder and find the two database files (named msmFMID.pmr and msmMMOB.mdb).  Delete them.  Restart Avid, and the system will rebuild them.  See if that fixes your problem.

You could try deleting your media databases, too, but Vista's not supported, so I have less confidence that it's going to help.

I deleted all setings folders and media folders, deactivated the sound card, deinstalled quicktime and the digidesign audio driver... But it still hangs at "Initialize Media StreamManager".

It did start up with 5.6.x. I really hoped that this could maybe work under Vista :( So is still have to dual boot all the time just because of avid.

I'm editing a project at the moment, but I'll try clearing my database when I get the chance. But if you have any more info on the "initializing audio" hang - that would be great! I'm glad I was able to update my dongle back to 5.5 to use 5.6.4.

If it isn't eh audio card...what could it be?

I am still having this probelm too.  menno suggested removing all user setting,,, i am trying that now.

I have now tried removing the mc state and the users and even the site settings and it makes no difference, i still get hung up on initializing media streams manager...please help..
