Hi everyone. This is HUGE news, and a very long time coming.
Effective immediately, under the new Media Composer for Students program, learning institutions can sign up as entry-level Avid Learning Affiliates at www.avid.com/media-composer/for-students. This is an answer to the growiug number of new talent who have been entering the marketplace without any skills in Avid Media Composer. It is designed to ensure that students will gain hands-on experience with the media & entertainment industry’s requisite editing tool.
If an educational institution wants to participate, they sign up with our Afficiate program - for free... And then get to deploy licenses of Media Composer to its students - also for free.
This is not a trial or a light version, but the full Media Composer Standard version.

I'm constantly running into situations where only FCP or Premiere are being used and the users aren't even aware of Media Composer. I just started on the tech team at a new church (for me) and they use FCP. It is frustrating! They also use Logic Pro. This is frustrating as a lng time Pro Tools user. smh.
Hi Chris,
This a great. Glad to see Avid rolling this program out. One question, is this available to High Schools, 9th-12th grade? If not, is that something that's being considered? Thanks
Jamie! Good to see you, buddy.
At the moment, this "Media Composer for Students" initiative is part of our larger Avid Affiliate program, which is geared towards accredited universities. We are certainly having internal discussions about widening that scope, but as you can imagine, we needed to start somewhere in order to get a sense of scale - both in adoption and in our own internal resources.
Important note -- There are colossal differences to consider for K-12 in adherences internationally with child privacy protection laws. We have teams of people paying strict attention to those things as we move forward. It certainly factors into how quickly any company out there (not just Avid) can spin-up programs targeting anyone under 18.
