Happy New Year from chilly Dublin,
I have a simple workflow question that might or might not have a simple answer.
I'm editing my first project in AVID Media Composer (2022.10) and it's a very simple, cutting drone footage to a music bed (my drone footage, nothing spectacular at all). There is probably 90min of footage al together.
I'm coming from ADOBE premiere and am used to linking to my footage rather that tanscoding. In premiere you have the option of rendering a proxy from the timeline between an in and out point if your getting a performance hit. It's a lazy way to work I know.
The last big project I cut in premiere was a 4K feature film. I cut using 2K proxies (transcodes).
Considering the current drone footage will go through Resolve for grade what workflow would you recommend?
OPTION A
OPTION B
I would test A end to end. If that works, use it. If not, look at B.
Since we do not know anything about your system, that is the best advice I can give.
Good luck,
Jef

Its likely hyper compressed H265 so transcoding to DNXHR would be a good move. I love Shutter encoder for this running as a separate proocess.
Ultimate 2022.12.1, Blackmagic Intensity Pro, WIN 11 on 7000Mbps M.2 SSD, Nvidia Quadro P4000, Asus Pro Art Z690 i9 12900k 5.0 GHz, 8TB M.2 SSD - its nippy!
Great stuff, thank you for the advice. I will check out Shutter encoder.
Although I have a license for Resolve. I wonder which would be better to use ?
I appreciate the help.
Thanks as always

Might be worth trying this workflow:

Great stuff, thank you very much, just watched the roundtrip tutorial and can't wait to try it in Resolve.
Grading in Resolve it giong to be part of my work flow, it makes perfect sense to Transcode in there aswell.
Thanks again
