We can do this in Resolve, how about avid? would be extremely helpful. Thanks
How on earth does Resolve manage to deal with competing changes?
I know resolve is different in that it uses, a database to store the sequence elements so that makes sharing easier. But what if two editors trim the same shot? How can it store both trims?

I don't think you can do that in Resolve. It still locks it in the same way Avid does I think. Basically bin locking for the edit page so two editors can't change the same sequence, whoever gets there first has read/write and everyone else has read.
However the colour and fusion pages do have clip locking so you can work on a per clip basis.
You can manually lock all bins if you don't want anyone messing about while you work but two editors cannot be working on the exact same sequence at the same time as that would obviously be a nightmare.

Are you using an Avid storage such as Nexis or ISIS? Or shared storage with an Avid File System emulation (Terablock or Editshare)?
In Resolve you have project sharing via PostgreSQL server. But this is similar to Avid's bin-locking. Though you can be more granular at the clip or sequence level instead of the bin level for Avid.
But the same rule applies. Only one user can edit, all other users are read only.
