Hello Avid users!
I was hoping to get some info and clarity on export settings and the best practices when it comes down to these:
Keyframe: Automatic // Every ___ frames // All
Frame Reordering: Ticked // Unticked
I did have a google and a quick search through the forum but A LOT of the information is quite old and still seems to be some mystery surrounding it when it comes to exporting specifically. I know it can get quite complicated and quite technical quickly but does anyone have an insight.
So question: what are the best settings for these?
Standard settings to go alongside these are h.264, current fps, faster encode (single pass) and data rate changes in diff situations.
Exports are mostly being watched on newer laptops and occasionally hooked up to a TV for larger screenings.
Thanks!
Friends don' let friends use classic old QT export. Use the modern MOV or MP4 export options from Media Composer. Or on older versions, export QT Ref or Same As Source, then use Shutter Encoder to create h264's. QT's encoder is old and slow and prone to causing gamma shift issues.

Thanks Job! Will have a look at Shutter Encoder. Yes unfortunately we're running an older version here for this project.
We had an issue with something that looked like dropped or duplicate frames (we weren't in the screening to witness) on an export played through a laptop on a big TV. So many variables to consider but prompted the question into export settings. Project is 23.976. I have a feeling it was because we had 'frame re-ordering on'.
Cheers!
You should start a new post for this as this one is about Quicktime.
