    NEXIS Drive Size Discrepancies

I'm working on a NEXIS E4 running 19.8.0.2 and most of our project drives have big space discrepancies.

    For example:

    DRIVE SPACE ALLOCATED = 600GB

REPORTED USED via NEXIS Management Consol = 272GB

REPORTED FREE via NEXIS Management Consol = 327GB

REPORTED USED via Client Manager = 86% (516GB)

REPORTED USED via FINDER = 506GB

REPORTED FREE via FINDER = 98GB

SIZE CALCULATION OF ITEMS ON DRIVE = 288GB

    UNACCOUNTED FOR SPACE = 218GB

When I try to lower the allocation of the drive it won't let me stating the space is taken up.

Has anyone run into this issue and know of a way to fix it? I feel like I'm wasting a lot of space with this discrepancy. I have lots of project drives so this is adding up.

There are a few threads that discuss this topic. What protection do you have on the Workspace?

    And this one.

I have the drive set to:

    Engine Protection Mode: Unprotected

Media Pack Protection Mode: Two Disk Protection

I looked through those threads. I can look into up grading to a newer version. Its odd its only on the projects drive.

The Projects workspace is where you'll see the largest difference. Is this a Scale-out or High Performance storage group?

With a Scale Out storage group the smallest block is 512KB and 1024KB with High Performance Storage Group.
With a scale out storage group if the file is 512KB or less it will use 512KB on the disk. If the file is 513KB it will use 1024KB.

An Avid Project has a number of small files - bins, cache files, attic....

Then the protection is added to this. As a rule, 2 Disk Protection on disk is best case is 20% for parity on all large files. For files, less than 512KB size it can be as much as 66%.

I like to zip the attic, leave the zip on the workspace if needed and then delete the attic folder. MC will create a new Attic. Move the bin index to the local drive instead of the project. Remove old projects from the projects workspace.
