The new sony a7SIII has the ability to create its own proxy files in addition to the high resolution files while recording... does anyone know if there is a workflow in Media Composer to utilize them instead of transcoding? It would save me a ton if time to attach or connect the sony proxies the camera created instead of creating new proxies in the Transcode window.
Adobe Premiere has this feature and its done by "attaching proxies". Anyone know if this is possible?
I am trying to solve the same issue here. It has to be possible ! If i solve it I will let you know.
Avid can do nothing with the Sony in camera Proxy......I have been down this road and have tried everything.
very very very frustrating that this is not a function in Avid! what a time saver this would be.
That beeing said......if you do fine a resolve......I am following this thread !
Wouldn't the normal proxy workflow work for this?

Hi Scott,
Unfortunatly the workflow you are refering to is generating proxy in Avid itself.
(first AMA link to 4K and then transcode to DNxHR LB Proxy)
But the new sony camera's can record 2 streams internally. 4K and a 720p Proxy next to that on the same card.
What we want is to AMA link to the 720p proxy that comes out of the Sony Camera. Edit that and then relink to the 4K footage that also came out of the camera.
That way we can use the internally recorded proxy that is generated by the sony camera and skip the whole process of having to create proxy in Avid.
Make us happy ! :-)
but thanks for the reply...
Greetings from Holland!
The process for linking to high-res material is the same whether the proxies were made by Avid or made in camera. Does the proxy media properly AMA link in a bin? If not that then try importing them. Then I'd suggest trying a short test edit with a few shots and then relinking to the higher resolution.
