Hey guys,
I'm getting a new PC built to run Avid Media Composer so I can work remotely. I can't afford a qualified workstation and so looking into more cost effective options. Will Media Composer run ok with the following specs?.... Any advice is much appreciated.
(FYI - I will be cutting with multicam)
VIDEO CARD:
Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2070 Windforce 2X 8GB Video Card
PROCESSOR:
AMD Ryzen 9 3900X 12 Core Socket AM4 3.8GHz CPU Processor + Wraith Prism Cooler
OR
Intel Core i9 10920X 12 Core LGA 2066 3.50GHz CPU Processor
MEMORY:
Corsair Vengeance LPX 64GB (2x 32GB) DDR4 3200MHz Memory - Black
MOTHERBOARD:
Gigabyte B550 VISION D AM4 ATX Motherboard
STORAGE
Kingston A2000 1TB M.2 (2280) PCIe NVMe SSD
Samsung 860 Evo 2TB 2.5" SATA III 6GB/s V-NAND SSD MZ-76E2T0BW
POWER:
Enermax REVOLUTION D.F Series 750W 80+ Gold Fully Modular Power Supply
What is your budget? Have you checked out refurbs from TekBoost in Texas? Good prices on refurb custom boxes. Personally I'd go with Intel over AMD. A nvidia rtx2060 super may be cheaper. Nominal difference for avid on that card. I bought a refurb from them and got a new card and put it in. They still will honor 3 year warranty. I also sent them the avid config doc for hp z840 and they configured it at no cost.

Yes it should run fine, only thing if you run into a bug or malfunction you'll be on your own and Avid won't offer support if it is not an Avid qualified (tested and recommended) system.

A lot people have built a custom NLE for Avid. It will run in most cases, but it is not guaranteed and you have to solve problems.

Nvidia just launched the RTX 3000 series with more performance. If you can wait one or two months, AMD will launch their new generation (RDNA 2) and Nvidia will at least reveal their 3070. But go with Nvidia.

Two different plattforms. The very old, but solid Intel and the newer AMD. AMD AM4 is newer (PCIe 4, DDR4-3200), but only Dual Channel RAM and limited number of PCIe lanes. For Intel you would need a quad kit (4x16).
In both cases I recommend to replace the stock cooler. Noctua offers good coolers (cool&quiet).
Many custom builds go still with the Intel. If you want to go with AMD, just wait one week because they will reveal ZEN 3 (Ryzen 5000).

I assume the Kingston is for the OS, programs etc. and the Samsung is for the footage. In this case I would change it because of the bandwith of M.2 NVME.

I don't know this PSU. Look at some tests and maybe look for 80+ Platinum. Depending on the final build, a good 600 or 650W will do the job. In my builds I use bequiet, Seasonic or Corsair.
Still waiting on the AMD Zen 3 release. It could be an actual game changer. But we won't know that till someone puts MC on it and runs it through it's paces.

Hi Just my 2 cents:
Just did a build - used the i9 10920X - should you choose that you will need a MB for X299X chipset - not sure if the one you picked is designed for that
Also PSU - I got 1000 watt might be a bit overkill bit there is room to spare for addon/upgrades - like power hundgry GPU - also get a platinum PSU if you can find one - while gold is adquate plantinum will put out less heat - if you look at the specs between both PSU - there is only a slight difference in heat - but over the long run I think it is worthwhile - I think there is also a small savings on power over a year.
I do not know much about AMD - at this time I always stick with INTEL
Power Supplies work best with 50 to 75% load. The power requirement on-line calculators on many PSU sellers are very usefull tools.
There is a trend in all computer parts to reduce power draw, CPU, GPU, SSDs all are using less "juice"than 10 years ago, so oversizing the PSU would appear unneccesary.
