Change CC buckets to something better and add more...

I find that the type of work I do requires me to have many corrections for multiple sequences. The 8 colour "buckets" that Avid provides in the CC module are not enough and even worse, you can't label the *** things so you are constantly trying to remember which correction you saved to which bucket.

This needs to be replaced with either some sort of drop down list that allows for essentially unlimited corrections to be named and saved or even better, some form of gallery that gives you a visual sense of the correction you have saved.

Sure I can save multiple CC effects to bins and name them but I want to use the Symphony relational corrections and so that doesn't work, this needs to work inside the CC module.

Avid are you still planning on improving the Symphony CC module or are you done with it for the next ten years again?

All of this yes especially when coloring multicam shows with 16+cams its a headache. And ability to have opened master, hl,mt and shadow tabs all at once would be awesome. Also to save a preset with source segment cc and cc effect with masks in one bucket.
Great feature will be to set a working tracks area with topmost priority: for example v1-v3 and avid will automatically switch to layer that is visible on output so i can concentrate on color and not to switch between tracks.

Just want to reiterate almost one year later, how useful it would be to be able to NAME THE CORRECTIONS WE MAKE! And have MORE OF THEM! This cannot be something that is too hard to do and it would vastly improve the usefulness of the CC module.  Does anyone at Avid have any info on upcoming improvements to the colour corrector? I have to work with this every day and it is so annoying.

Master clip and Src Tape also need to be able to work with different metadata for example Disk Label as clips often change during a take and people don't use Tape any more for file-based clips as it wipes the source path.  These are such small but useful tweaks that could make an actual difference to everyday productivity.

You shouldn't be charging extra for this anemic feature set if you're not going to do any development on it. It's not good enough to be told to roundtrip to Resolve as that doesn't work for many situations. Please Avid, give the colour corrector some love, just make some of these small improvements, I don't need to tweak my bin colours any further, you can take the devs off those tasks now!

Forgive me for asking, but why don't you save the colour correction effect to a bin instead of a bucket? That way you could give them names. I use baselight, so I don't really know.

Hi Philip, if you read my first comment that explains why I don't use cc effects in bins, those effects don't work with relational corrections, they work on a per clip basis. I can drag them back in the the cc module but that just gives me the same original problem.

Relational CCs do work from a bin, unless I'm missing something. If you you use a combination of relational and shape based CCs then you have to apply them together but I regularly save master segment, scr segment and color correction (for shape CCs) clips to a bin.

Symphony's relational CCs do need updating though - they were based more on tape media and there is little way to customise the metadata they use. Something like the relink options would be useful.

I totally agree that the buckets are almost useless too.

Right then! Mercer, thanks for making me look deeper in to this - you are correct! I hadn't realised and had never thought to try double clicking the effect from a bin rather than dragging it to a clip. Dragging to a clip results in the correction only applying to the current clip even if it has been made with Master selected. Double clicking the correction effect whilst the playhead is over the clip will then respect the Master relationship and add the correction to all instances of that clip in the timeline. So, apologies to Philip and others for assuming incorrectly that this wasnt working.

This doesn't make me want to change this feature request as I still think all of this should be done within the CC interface without the need to drag efects to bins. If we are going to have to do that then it would be good for the effects to note what sort of relational correction they have applied to them i.e. Color Correction (Master), Color Correction (Segment) etc. - similar to when you drag an effect with Src.

This will save me some time though so thanks very much for pointing this out, this forum is always a great source of new (very old) information!

    This too +100%.

Avid Symphony is still very powerful for 95% of all TV colour grading - what it lacks are the restoration and other online fixing tools of Resolve. Animatte, paint, Boris CC and Neatvideo NR get you someway there but for serious grading the higher end and budget productions here are graded on Resolve and it doesn't require expensive plugins to do more anyway. The lack of control surfaces is not a deal breaker but would be unthinkable at that level.

What I don't wish to happen is Avid one day decide to reconfigure Symphony a la Titler+ and make a simple and still quick CC totally unworkable and incomprehensible for a few years (Editors still on Marquee here for anything fancy there).
