    Non-Qualified Laptop Advice - Lenovo Legion 7i?

Hi - I'm planning to pick up a non-qualified Lenovo Legion 7i laptop that I'm hoping will be able to run Media Composer 2019.12.

It won't be used for client work, so I'm not so concerned about the full stability that I'd expect from a qualified laptop, but I'd love to know if there are any known confllicts with the below system/components -- or if it should it theoretically work fine?

    Lenovo Legion 7i 15"

    • 10th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-10750H Processor (2.60 GHz, up to 5.00 GHz with Turbo Boost, 6 Cores, 12 Threads, 12 MB Cache)
    • NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 2070 Super Max-Q 8GB
    • 16 GB DDR4 2933MHz
    • 512 GB PCIe SSD
    • 15.6" FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS, anti-glare, Dolby Vision™ HDR 400, 500 nits, 144Hz
    • Windows 10 Home 64

And would any of these upgrades be recommended for Media Composer?

    • NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 2080 Super Max-Q 8GB
    • 32 GB DDR4 2933MHz
    • 1 TB PCIe SSD
    • 15.6" FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS, anti-glare, Dolby Vision™ HDR 400, 500 nits, 240Hz
    • Windows 10 Pro 64

    Thanks for any advice!

    -erik

The two upgrades I'd add would be boost to 32GB RAM and W10 PRO. CPU & GPU should be fine, 512SSD sufficient for boot/pgm/non-media drive

    Avid MC 2021.12 with Symphony option | HP zbook 17" G3 / i7 6820HQ / 32GB RAM / 512GB SSD / WIN 10 PRO 64 / nVidia m3000m w/ 461.72 driver / BMD UltraStudio... [view my complete system specs]

I just went through the same thing debating on video cards, you should be fine on the 2070S vs 2080S. Avid likes CPUs, Resolve likes GPUs. But for the price the 2070S seems the ways to go. https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/ And yeah 32GB RAM, 1TB SDD. These guys do builds with non-qualified parts. https://zworkstations.com/

MC 2020.06 w/Symphony option. BlackMagic DeckLink 12G, HP Z840 Dual 3.2Ghz/8 Core, 1TB SSD, 1TB Cache drive, 128GB Ram, Nvidia RTX2060 Super, BCC2020,... [view my complete system specs]

Cool - thanks. Ended up going with the 2070S and did the 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD upgrades as well...
