I do not understand the barrage avid is getting about this.

I was going to keep my mouth shut as these are Facebook type rants, but..I agree with Philip. I was expecting far worse considering all the hate on this issue, but the interface really hasn't changed that much. I get muscle memory etc., but all software, Adobe, Microsoft, changes where they put/hide things on various upgrades for reasons us minions will never understand, but the new MC interface is an improvement. I like the docking panels and I'm getting used to other changes, but the interface is still so much more "tight" than Premiere and it has a clean, direct GUI compared to PP, IMHO. Over my 40 years I too have bitched at most software upgrades, such as a major overhaul in Windows, but thank gawd we're not still stuck with W95 UI and eventually the lights start to go off and the new UI starts to feel right at home. But these arguments are of no real use to anyone... it's like debating Peter Gabriel Genesis or Phil Collins Genesis...get over it. Phil saved Genesis. Trevor Rabin saved Yes.Too bad Apple never decided to touch iTunes after it's rerlease a few decades ago. I'm sure Avid's P&L would look a lot better if they chose to sit still and change nothing. Instead they are moving forward with new ideas.

Which is why I think they should simply provide an optional default user setting that mimics the default user settings for 2018 and earlier. That way, less existing users have to spend less time changing things back to their preferred way of working.

I don't think that's such a stupid idea, it may help folks 'evolve'.

Things change, fair enough. The point is investing time and resources in GUI so called improvements, while in fact the GUI is essentially the same as before, except for docking (I could live without, but that is just me), and a useless and confusing menu shuffle. If it was my decision(s) the efforts and money needed for development would have gone toward better AMA playback, better effects management, subframe audio editing, better Mix&Match, true resolution indipendence, MediaTool improvements for file based workflows (the tool is stuck back at the tape age, and still can't fully manage media files), and I could go on and on for ages, and I'm quite sure most of us could add their wishlist to mine. To cut a long story short, the point is cosmetic changes VS technical improvements, and not bitching for the sake of bitching. No offence intended Fazz Powell, I'm bitchy as well from time to time (perhaps right now either).

It just doesn't make good business sense as the user base will moan and groan if that feature cost them extra money. If you're a closed shop wherein you edit what you shoot and your not a post house then it's a non-issue... stay with the last release of legacy Mc, 2019.12 (or was it 2018.12). You can always use another application to transcode footage's codec your old Mc doesn't support. It beats all a ton of hours and money for Avid to continue parallel development.

I was merely suggesting providing an optional user setting that mimics >2018 behavior. Can't be expensive.

Luca was stating the interface changes were cosmetic, and haven't brought along too many technical improvements, some of which are overdue. Those improvements costs money, as does redoing an interface. Something's gotta give.

I have now used Media Composer for thirty years on a daily basis.

I completely agree. I have tried to use the new UI and found it frustrating, mainly because floating windows do not comply with workspace settings.

I would have loved to have a better colour corrector, (it seems to be still 12 bit and not support the improvements in pipeline, which were initially made in version 8,) bussing and automation of inserts in the audio mixer, the ability to name audio tracks, (Not append the name!)

    Non Facebook rant over.

Are you using the new UI software, anyway?

When I was briefly on a.v2019 version, I saw that the new Bin Containers and perhaps Bin Layouts were the two concepts that could present differently after switching from one Project to a new or existing older Project. I never fully wrapped my head around it. But I was using non-floating bins/containers and tools.

Re: your issue with Workspaces, I’m curious if you got all the support you needed? Sometimes there’s  no good time for troubleshooting, etc.  Are you describing current, known issues?

I was pretty OK with the new Interface. I wonder if I had far less issues because I was mainly using a single Project in a single monitor system.

Anyway... keep on truckin’ And best of luck...

I did give it a good try, but gave up mainly because of the way floating windows behaved, so back to 2018 currently.

I also use a single 30" monitor with the source and record windows on the left.

Why? Because that was the way online suites were set up- audio mixer to the right, client on the left!

The new UI does not seem to like this, but when I get a gap between projects I will give it another go.

Thank you for your kind wishes.

30 years and still busy... oh yeah!

I learned recently on my 24” monitor... that I can actually stretch out the MC UI waaay further to the right and stash all sorts of open tools there, like Find, Markers Tool, Timeline Comments, Scripts...the works.  But alas, the workspace function would not permit saving such a re-positioned UI... but I could drag it to reveal manually. I feel I got my 24” screen set up like a sailboat with a place for everything...I actually learned how to use v2018 much better after exposure to 2019+

I've been working on AVID since 1990 when I was at Red Car helpingto develop it.
I only just saw what happened as I've been using and older stand alone for a long time.
    It's HORRIBLE what they've done!
Trying to appeal to the young Premiere crowd by making the user interface WAY less user friendly.
Shame on you idiots for doing this to the people who made your business.

A reminder to be civil on this forum.

If you have legitimite complaints about how the new interface worksnot from a lack of familiarisng yourself with itthen I do encourage you to post them here/send them to myself so it can be passed onto the necesary teams at Avid.
