How do I turn off Audio Scrub?

I've been away from Media Composer for a while and now that I'm back and updated, I've either forgotten a few things or they've changed.

    1. How do I turn off Audio Scrub? It used to be that I had to either hold down the shift key or put on the caps lock key to get audio scrub. Now those choices apply if I am using the one frame forward or backward keys, but if I drag through the timeline, the audio plays even when shift or caps lock aren't engaged. I'd like to have control over that.
      1. Am I remembering incorrectly
      2. Is there a new setting somewhere I can't find?
      3. Is this a change in approach?
      4. Is this a bug?
      5. Is this an issue of my using a no longer qualified computer?
      6. Am just I hearing things?

That IS weird... most definitely if caps-lock is not one you should not be getting audio scrub.

Did you try creating new user preferences?

    Jason,

I hate it when new settings is the correct answer. Huh?

But wait! Turns out that creating new settings then returning to the old settings got rid of the problem.

I'm with you! Who knows if that EVER has really done ANYTHING but I still religously create new ones whenever a big update happens just in case... 5 minutes of time for nebulous security I guess...

Sure, a great idea and I do try, but five minutes my behind! My settings are twenty years worth of meddling. It takes me forever to rebuild them.

I have screen shots of all my settings that I use for reference when rebuilding User settings.  Just open up the Keyboard settings and make a screen grabs, including with Shift (or other modifiers pressed).  Really speeds up the process.

Great tip and I do have those and it does save time. Still takes a while though. I tend to not think to do it till I'm ready to start a new project and realize I haven't done it.

Re: How do I turn off Audio Scrub?

I agree with all said here, BUT ....

I have found that the forced act of opening all these settings has lead me to discovering software changes / updates that were not clear to me from the doc or had changed in a version I had skipped.  So, useful in the long run.

Absolutely—and, hey, how are you Jef?—but, still, it can be challenging to fine the time and it is an editor's perogative to complain from time to time.

There is an update settings option that sometimes helps and if you know how you can copy specific settings from one set of settings to another.
