    Project "Reveal File"

    Hi,

When you right-click on a clip in MC, it takes you to the appropriate MXF file in one of your hard drives.  Is there such a function as a project wide reveal files?  I ask this in relation to handing over work to a third-arty editor after having done some prep work.  How best to manage the process?

    Thank you,

    DC

No easy way within Avid. You can use MDV which is a free external application that helps sort and copy move delete media based on project. Its the sort of functionality MC should have.

Consolidating is Avid way of moving media around but its not an ideal method.

Most editors manually rename media folders as a way of managing media but you need to do that from the start.

Do you mean by that using a folder within Avid Media Files folder named with a dedicated number for each project?

Thank you, both.  So how do you manage/direct transcoding-to-MXF within specified folder?  And how if you share stuff from other projects do you collate correctly?  And how to ensure, starting from a fresh perspective, that everything in the present project is correctly located?

Yes but its a bit more complex than that. Avid will always create media (in a standalone setup not shared storage) in the 1 folder untill that has more the 5K files in it (I think) then move onto 2 folder etc.

If after ingesting/transcoding or rendering you re number that folder say 101 then it won't get any additional media added to it automatically.

Then as you work on different projects you rename their media folders to say 201 301 401 or whatever.

Always checking that the 1 folder is empty after each project session. If any media has been created then move it from the 1 folder to the appropriate 101 or 201 or 301 folder or rename the 1 folder to the next folder number for that project.

So if you have a 201 and you make new media related to that i n the standard 1 folder then rename the 1 folder 202 you then have all the media for the 200 project in a set of folders.

If you need to share the project then you just share all those relevant folders.

When moving media between folders its best to not have MC running and delete msmFMID.pmr and msmMMOB.mdb Avid will remanke them on launch.
