    30p vs 29.97 frame rate

Hello, I want to get the settings right at the outset of my (first) project on Media Composer First.  I shot footage on a Canon Vixia camcorder at 30p (according to the menu), but the Media Composer First program is reading it as 29.97 for purposes of setting the editing frame rate.  Should I set the editing frame rate at 29.97 or 30 -- which is more accurate?  I wonder if the Canon menu was telling me it's 30p when it was actually shot at 29.97.  Help!

Many cameras take the easy way out and say 30 when they really mean 29.97.  If Avid says it is 29.97, go with that.

Jeff, thank you for your response.  I greatly appreciate it!  I assumed this was the case and set the Avid frame rate at 29.97, although I was planning to call Canon tomorrow to see what they said about their camcorder (Vixia).  On a different note...would you happen to know why I get an error message that says "Exception: MSM_CONS_MISMATCHED_WRITERS" when I try to render a Dissolve over one video track and two audio tracks?  It renders over the video track, but will not render over the audio tracks.  Help!

Well to be fair even Avid calls it 30i in the SD Project creation and yet its actually 29.97

Before HD we called 29.97 30 but as HD added 30fps we then had to be more specific.

No real idea on that.  What happens if you just select one of the audio dissolves to render?
