When I want to import (or AMA link, it doesn´t matter) AVCHD file to version 2018.12.1 imported file in bin has not sound. It seems to be something with AC-3 licence. Clean uninstall and reinstall didn´t help. It is on Win 7 Pro SP1.
Anybody has the same experience?
Hi Lemuriatv,
Please email me, I will open a support case for this, include MC systems ID.
Thanks,
RalphC
Thank you RalphC, the case is already open
I wonder if someone else has the same experience.

Yes, I remember now, this was brought up on our last meeting yes there has been another report.
We have a logged bug number for this MCCET-2842.
Hi,
Please add me to the list of folks experiencing this issue.
Console says:
[AVCHD MSP Plug-In] AC3 CODEC is not available: producing silence.
I have the same problem.
However, some weeks ago I was able to import AVC video mts Files with sound succesfully. The sequences I built with them still worf correctly (video + sound). Now, when I re-import the same same files they are without sound. What does this mean?
IS THERE SOLUTION?
The same mistake with me.Use DaVinci Resolve transcoding to DNxHR.

I have tried everything (on the advice of avid workers, incl. clean reinstallation). The only solution for this moment is downgrade to 2018.7 (for me, in version 2018.10 was problem with send to Sorenson).
Until there will be a better solution to the problem, my procedure is as follows:
1. I import AVCHD footage (mts or m2ts) into MC and put the files into a timeline, which has no sound.
2. I open these files In Squeeze 11 Pro and transcode audio for each file into mp3 (>Formats >mp3 Audio: highest qualitiy).
3. Back in MC I delete the silent audio tracks and fill them with the mp3 files.
Here's another alternative, also not pretty but it saves a transcoding (loss of video quality) step.
Link to AVCHD files Brings in Vido + empty Audio tracks.
Bring the same clips into your favorite encoder such as Squeeze (I use Adobe Media Encoder)
Encode the clips as audio only.
Import the audio clips to Avid
Autosync the wav files to the matching video. This is your new master clip.
It's a pain, and I lost a lot of hours over the weekend doing tasks the machine should have done automatically overnight. Please fix this quickly Avid.
That said, it also makes you appreciate how far Avid's capabilities have come over the years that we now take this for granted.
Maybe this bug is new with MC 2018.12.1.
Up to MC 2018.12 I had no problems to import AVCHD (mts, m2ts) files. That would explain why I still can play back clips with sound imported at that time
OK, I can replicate the bug. I linked to a MTS file on 2018.12 and was able to play back the clip with sound. I updated to 2018.12.1, and I no longer get sound even on the clip to which I had linked in the previous version. I'm going to escalate this up to support, referencing this thread.

Thank you Dave!
back several years ago, i never was able to link my mts files from a lumix gh2...
however, as a work around, i would do a batch quick rewrap to .mov of all my files as a first step with hdcinematic v2, or v4 - v6 as of now. it was done in a split second and video was not altered at all, just converting the audio.
import clip(s)
convert media format
video codec: wrap to .mov
audio codec: DO NOT COPY as default switch to 48k (works well for me) or whatever u want to try
edit: DO NOT USE AC3
i just tried again a conversion a few minutes ago, and it works perfecly ama linking the .mov in 2018.12.1
the time you enjoy wasting is NOT wasted time...
