I have a bunch of old projects with OMF media files which can't be read by most other applications. Is it possible to convert them to MXF without transcoding? Consolidating doesn't do the job, even when media creation settings is set to MXF.
Thanks!
what happens during the consolidation?

I think that Consolodate will create Same As Source media and Transcode will create the media that you choose. Why don't you want to transcode?
Quite sure I have done this in the past, by consolidating master clips.
What is the original media format for the video? For video, OMF is just a reference file. If the associated media isn't MXF then you should transcode (consolidating with a new format is the same as transcoding).

I beg to differ. Before MC Adrenaline, on Meridien and ABVB systems, Avid mediafiles were OMF Mediafiles. SD resolutions like 10:1, and 14:1p etc. existed both in OMF and in MXF containers.
The media is DV.
Consolidating just leaves it OMF, as it was before.
Transcoding makes no sense, as it would recompress it.
Are you consolidating the master clips or the sequence?
DV is 5:1, if You transcode to an higher MXF resolution there's no quality loss, in PAL land DNxHD 85 would suffice. You need to be in an HD project for MXF to succeed IIRC.

The sequence. It's the sequence I want to export as AAF.

You're right of course, I'd just prefer not to have aditional media files of the same footage.
Rewrapping OMF to .mov would probably also be an option, but I couldn't find any program that would do this.

So it looks like the OP has embedded DV, Which means a transcode. If it's regular DV then transcoding to MXF at anything above 25Mbs wCPU cores limits for MCill be pretty much as close to a non-destructrive copy (DV is lossy, so there will always be a small amount of degradation). If it's DVCPro50 then anything above 50Mbs will work (as pointed out by luca).
But the question remains why a consolidate to MXF didn't work?

And just to return to the original question, if it is raw DV in an OMF file, you can get it out using FFMPEG (or any of the HDCinematics app's which provide a front-end to FFMPEG). Just to get the video out with FFMPEG you can use something like:
ffmpeg -i inputfilename.omf -c:v copy -c:a copy outputfile.dv
This rewraps the audio and video back into a DV file. You can also try using outputfile.mov or -f mxf_opatom outputfile.mxf to wrap the DV into a .MOV or .MXF container, but I'm not sure how well that will work. This is very fast to try as it's a rewrap and not a transcode.
You can download ffmpeg from https://www.ffmpeg.org/download.html.

You can't export AAF from an OMF based project, go to the Media creation settings and switch to MXF, export the sequence, no need to consolidate/transcode first, in the export settings choose "Consolidate media", in the "Transcode video to" dropdown menu pick Your favourite flavour of MXF, You can set the "Media destination" to wherever You like, that's the place where the newly created MXF files will land, and the AAF will point to.

A Same As Source Export would do that.
