yes 2020.6 and started with new user settings. also the project was created in 2020.6 (although the bins weren't).

if you have a place I can upload I can do a screen record of the problematic behavior.

Re: Avid Titler+ - The good, the not-so-good and the ugly...

    Dave Avid PM:

No, it's 32 bit and it would take 2 years to rewrite.

Titler+ was introduced two years ago. Hindsight is often anything but fair, but it's clear where almost all of the editors who have commented here would have placed their bets...

Which leads me to wonder where Avid's departure from the structure and functionality of the old Title Tool was intended to go in Titler+. My apologies if I missed it, but could Dave, or someone from Avid, please explain what Titler+ was/is supposed to achieve beyond what the Title Tool was? And I imagine that the developer(s) for Titler+ have a plan for how it should work, and developmentally where it should go. The roadmap might provide some hope to us for its eventual success, which after two years is hard to see.

Re: Avid Titler+ - The good, the not-so-good and the ugly...

The goals were simple and were validated with users before we started this project:

1.) Customers wanted and integrated titler.  We had provided NewBlue and would have continued to do this, but users told us no.  They did not like NewBlue or a third party titler

2.) Customers wanted a simple to use titler, easy title creation, credit rolls and such.  They did not want a big motion graphics editor. Most use other products for that and didn't want to learn something new (new tools)

3.) they wanted easy to create titles, interacton with the monitor window, in context titling and WYSIWUG functionality

4.) They did not want us replicate Title Tool or Marquee.

    5.) They needed 4K support

6.) They wanted Media Composer paradymns, integrated in the FX palette and such.

Avid needed to create a titler that was 64 bit and did not rely on technology that was being replaced.

There is so much that goes into a product development effort, it's really too much for here. The roadmap is clear, we will take the feedback we received here and from our beta customers and the ACA and fix it.

I'm going to leave it at that for now.  The product team accepts the feedback from this community.  I can honestly say we get it, we get the frustration, we get the sense of urgency, we get what you are saying and hear you loud and clear. We moving to create the roadmap and priortize the most important issues, some of which are noted here.  I'll do my best to make sure my team is in contact with Marianna and updates  you on progress.

    Thanks again,

    Dave

    Dave Avid PM:
The goals were simple and were validated with users before we started this project:

Here's my "report card" on how Titler+ has met these goals:

    Dave Avid PM:
    Customers wanted an integrated titler.
      Grade: F  Not well integrated.

    Dave Avid PM:
Customers wanted a simple to use titler, easy title creation, credit rolls and such.
      Grade: F  Difficult-to-impossible to use.

    Dave Avid PM:
they wanted easy to create titles, interacton with the monitor window, in context titling and WYSIWUG functionality
Grade: F   No ease of use at all.  What-you-see-is-NOT-what-you-get.

    Dave Avid PM:
    They needed 4K support
Grade: F  Because Titler+ is so unusable, we need to go outside of MC to create 4K titles.

    Dave Avid PM:
They wanted Media Composer paradymns, integrated in the FX palette and such.
Grade F  Even seasoned MC users can't get it to work.

Yes I think we're all on board for these goals. And can we maybe set a goal of 6 months for a major revision? Fancy 3D is of no interest. So many developers create templates included in their package that would have little use in the real world. For the industrial/corporate/government market just having coordinates to do line builds and justify to tabs/un-constrain ability. Thanks for the update Dave.

Thank for this well thought out and detailed response.  Im going to let Dave digest it and respond back if he has any comments specifically.  Re Beta - I will speak with keith when back from vacation on this topic to ensure we have the right degree of coverage.... I know we do have some heavy hitters in beta and a lot cover that recommendation but I dont know how much they test.

I'll work with keith on that but know you can also become a tester as well.....

To apply for the next test cycle please click here [https://goo.gl/cSfr5d] which will walk you through creating an account in our Beta feedback system, named Centercode and then place you within the Media Composer beta project.

If you have any issues creating an account or need help if interested in beta testing, ping me back.

Thanks for that, Dave - it all makes good sense. Really the only point of contention is why it could not "replicate" ye olde Title Tool. A 64bit, 4K-capable integrated titler similar to the Title Tool (perhaps even expanded/improved?) would make everyone here quite happy. And not to further beat up an apparently dead horse, but try to have your developers look at Inscriber - I too used it for years, and it's miles above New Blue, Titler+, and even Marquee. Best to you and the team.

I trashed my Marquee licences many years ago. Now that we have faster machines I wonder if I can resurect my licence somehow. Is there a place to download it still and find my registration number? I'd like to give it a whirl. Or is BCC Title Studio better? Thanks in adavnce gang.

For HD and lower resolutions Marquee is still an option, just like Title Tool. Under your User settings/title tool, you can choose between TT and Marquee, and promote your TT titles to Marquee if desired. And someone wrote that you can promote Marquee to 4K with a workaround, w/out losing resolution - basically switch your higher-than-HD project to HD, create titles, switch back to 4K (at least that's what my leaky memory has retained.)

+1 That's also what I am trying to say.

Don't get me wrong. Avid needs in the very first place a simple, intregrated and perfect working titler like the old Title Tool, now know as Titler+. You cannot get around this. It's an essential tool inside the Avid.

But please, take at least some time to look at the opportunities to get Inscriber back to life. Marquee is an ugly dragon compared to Inscriber. I've always disliked it. The others that have been mentioned do the job, but it's not the same.

I'm seeing something, too, where if I'm deleting one letter at a time or sometimes typing out a word, the entire box moves across the screen with each delete or new letter. It'll do that until it's entirely off the screen. I always check to see if I've got the Effect button selected - that maybe Titler+ thinks I'm trying to do a crawl - but it's not selected.

    Feature? Or bug?
