I can't link to Sony MP4 files (AVC Long codec). Audio plays but video shows as WRONG FORMAT in the monitor within MC.
Do I need to purchase a external transcoding app or is there a plugin either free or paid that I need to get for MC?
Please let me know what my app/plugin options might be. Thanks!!
It's probably one of these:

If you're not sure, tell us what camera/system created the files, and whether they're XAVC, XAVC-S, or something else, and we can probably help figure it out.

Hi, the video clips are listed as XAVC-S 4K, shot on a Sony RX100 VI. And I am using MC 8.4.5. If you could let me know which specific app/plugin to install from the ones you listed, that would be much appreciated. Thanks!!!
Hi,
I'd use this one: http://www.nablet.com/products/plugins/avid-media-composer/xavc-s-ama-plugin/
I'm basing this decision on this text from the product page:
Sony:The nablet XAVC S AMA Plug-in allows you to link, play and edit Sony XAVC S footage in MP4 container via AMA in Avid editing products. It supports XAVC S LongGOP 4:2:0 up to 4K resolution and up to 240 fps as well as XAVC S Intra 4:2:2 HD.
There's a demo version you can download to make sure it works before paying for it.
I’ve been using “edit ready” to re-wrap the files to .mov as I copy them from the camera card, and then link them with the QuickTime plug in.
on quick turn around projects I transcode them to avid dnx.mov and link them with the quick time plug, and edit with the linked file.
