    "Create New Project" bug?

I'm running MC 8.5.3, though I have seen this issue before on 7.05...

When trying to create a new project from the start up page - either having just started the system or having exited one project and wanting to create another, when I select NEW PROJECT to create a new (external) project, the process starts, then I get an error prompt telling me "You must create a bin before starting a project" - this can be cancelled with ESC but will reappear several times, before finally Avid MC goes ahead and creates a new project - which seems to run with no further problems related to this issue.

    Simple question - why?

This is perhaps no longer a problem for me, because having learnt to use Templater, I always create a new project from outside Avid, so that when I open Avid MC, the new project that I want to run is already there.

But I'm curious... Is this a bug, or is it a design feature? :)

this sounds like a permissions issue in your destination directory.

I have seen similar behavior when doing AAF exports to network storage where the destination directory doesn't inherit permissions from the root level. ex: share permissons are read/write, but NTFS permissions on root are read-only, subdirectory permissions are Read/Write/Modifiy/Delete.

With the above described behavior, multiple retry attempts are required, and at each retry, one additional nested folder is created. Once all directories are created by retries, the export works normally.

I'll look into yopur permissions theory, but I would have expected MC to work properly by default as I have not set any permissions limitationsfor the proejct drive :)
