    Output 5.1 via 3 x AES pairs?

I have a 1080p 24fps, 5.1 sequence with 5.1 DME's. I'm going to play this back in a theatre that can only accept the audio on 3 AES pairs:

    L / R
    C / Lfe
    Ls / Rs

I have either an Avid DNxIO or an AJA IO 4K.

Can anyone explain which hardware is suitable (not sure DNxIO can do this?) and how I should have the audio ouput settings.

    Many thanks
    Mark

I'm thinking this is not possible with this hardware. No AES on the IO 4K and only 2 Channels of AES on the DNxIO.

So I guess I would need an audio AES de-embedder and send the audio over SDI?

If the DNxIO is like the Nitris DX (not sure as we have the Nitris) you may only be able to surround out the HDMI port.

    Symphony v8.8 | OS 10.11.6 • Nitris DX • 12-core MacPro (Mid 2012) • 36 GB RAM • Facilis Terrablock 24EX [view my complete system specs]

    Yeah, I think you're right.

How about an AES audio de-embedder like this one:
    Mini Converter SDI to Audio
    https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/uk/products/miniconverters/techspecs/W-CONM-22

Even though all my 5.1 DME's are in ProTools 5.1 order (L C R Ls Rs Lfe), in order for them to de-embed in the right pairs on the AES outputs, I think I would need to set the Media Composer output to SMPTE 5.1 order (L R C Lfe Ls Rs).

Does that sound even remotely plausible? Output in SMPTE order, de-embed from the Blackmagic box, which would take the 6 channels as follows:

    AES Pair 1 - Ch1 + Ch2 (L / R)
    AES Pair 2 - Ch3 + Ch4 (C / Lfe)
    AES Pair 3 - Ch5 + Ch6 (Ls / Rs)
